Version 1.2.0 with the "EnumeratePermissions" did the trick for us. My Site Administrators can access this feature now without having to have full control.

Thank You,
Permissions and Access rights can be rather complicated depending on how deep the levels of your site are.

Something like this gives us peace of mind that certain users definitely do not have access to certain parts of the site.

It would be nice if it worked for all users though;) Such as Sharepoint groups and other external users...Maybe later on???

Thanks alot

Keep up the good work
Can you just confirm that you activated the Web App Feature for the correct Web Application on the 'Manage Web Application Features' page in Central Admin.
Also, are you using an account that has Full Control to access the Site Settings links?
The image files that are used for the red and green in the color bar
are located in the following directory within your 12 hive: 12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES\AccessChecker. You can replace red.png and green.png for better accessibility. Additionally i have just released v1.2.0 of the ACWP which allows users to download an xml report of permissions of a user for offline viewing. You could manipulate this data to produce any desired look via XSLT.
Quickly check what objects within a Sharepoint site hierarchy a user has access to.

What's New:

- Access Report can now be downloaded as an XML file for archival and reporting purposes. You can transform the raw data into whatever format you like via XSLT. I will release a sample XSLT file soon for those who want it.

What's Changed:

- Access Checker is no longer restricted to site admins only. Users with EnumeratePermissions mask have authority to use this tool.
- Lists are displayed before subsites in the tree, for easier identification.
- Error message area is now at the top of the page and the font is colored red.

What's Fixed:

- CreateSSCSite permission is ignored by default when comparing permissions in User mode. This setting can be configured in the Tool Pane.

What you mentioned should work, I have set up a group with the "EnumeratePermissions" selected just for the auditor.

I take it the current download does not have this functionality?

These Site Administrators don't have Full Control but have all site permissions that Full Control has except "Create Subsites" and are unable to get results. If I check the box for "Create Subsites" in their permission level then it does work for them but I don't want them to be able to create subsites.

Their Permission Level does include "Enumerate Permissions" so would the modification you suggested of checking for the EnumeratePermissions role work? It would be great if it would. If not is there another way to work around this issue?

Thanks,
I thought maybe it was b/c i had it activated on 2 separate site collections, so I deactivated it on on site collection.
Now I get this error when i search for a user's permissions or when i view permission inheritance.

any ideas why this is happening?

This functionality would also be useful for auditing permissions on sites.

I've been thinking about how i would implement this idea. A Datasheet view wouldn't work well because of the hierarchical structure of the data. I suppose you could nest sub sites in folders, but that doesn't export to excel nicely at all.

Speaking of Excel, i'm having reservations in limiting the report to be viewable in Excel only. Not to mention there are a couple of methods to generate an Excel file depending on what version i code against. Does anyone have any ideas on a preferable approach?
Should i just export the data as xml and provide a simple xslt file to transform it to html/text/csv ?

Tom.

Hi Tom,

The reason for this export in excel or view in datasheet::

it gives the administrator the possibility to create a report and send it to the management for review e.g. when some people move dept etc..

Thanks
Patrick
