I downloaded and started using the toolkit exclusively for the RoundedCornersExtender. I have discovered multiple problems with various asp controls when there are nested extenders (MasterPage/ContentPage), such as one rounded panel inside another. I've decided for now not to attempt to use more than one layer. Don't know if the problem is with the RCE or with MS's AJAX library.

This version looks very good.
Althoug the calendar extender when used with a complete date and time, overrites any manual time entry from the user to 00:00:00. This totally brings down this feature to be useless.
Until now this is the only reason why i do not rate it to a better score.
Now i have to find a workaround to solve this issue, once i used this feature widelly in my webapp.
Cheers

I would not recommend anyone deploy these controls into a production environment. They are simply too buggy.
Many bugs still remain unresolved after 18+ months. Several have workarounds, but not all, and this has a serious impact on code maintainability and flexibility in any case.

The ajax extensions for 2.0 is a joke. Impossible to debug, extremely buggy controls and its absolute HELL on earth when you're using dynamic controls. Error's need to be a lot more verbose as well.

AjaxControlToolkit for .NET framework v2.0 is release #20229 on Feb 29, 2008. Look to the upper-right hand corner of this page for the 'Releases' box, and click on #20229 to access that download page

While I originally found this to be of use, there are way too many problems implementing most of the significant controls (HUGE learning curve). Having reported many bugs to only see them still unresolved after 18 months, I've needed to move on to another AJAX library. Fortunately jQuery is out there. Most of the techniques are easier to implement and the footprint is much smaller.

Needs an installer and notes to add a script manager ( i.e. <asp:ScriptManager ID="mScriptManager" AsyncPostBackTimeout="180" runat="server"> </asp:ScriptManager>).
I wasted an hour trying to figure out what the hell the scriptmanager was and why it had to be added (and where) .
Here is a good link: http://tech-review.org/blogs/.net_2.0/archive/2007/02/08/lets-talk-scriptmanger.aspx

Where is the .net 2.0 release? I cant open the 3.5 source in Visual Studio 2005 to try to build that in 2.0? Is that even possible?
by
niallhannon on
Nov 27 2008 at 11:11 AM
.NET 2.0 is STILL supported - 2.0 builds are just not provided as part of the release. Grab the source and build it for 2.0 and you are good to go. (Microsoft: did you guys get lazy?)

FOR THOSE WHO WANT THIS FOR .NET 2.0
Look at the "releases" box in the top right of the page and change to release 20229 - you'll find it there. It looks like it's stopped being supported but you can still download and use the version as it was then - I've not had any major problems with it :)

No good to us as there's no ASP.NET 2.0 version. I hope there's a good reason other than forcing us to upgrade?

Not exceptional, but will probably work for most people. Our dev team encountered issues using certain extenders (e.g. cascading drop-down, auto complete, calendar), lacking functionality and erratically misbehaving. jQuery plug-ins often offer better functionality and are easier to debug, extend and deploy.

I like the AJAX control toolkit and have since .Net 2.0....but as a backwards compatitability issue....you may want to have a VS2k5 and a VS2k8 source project. As we users of VS2k5 cannot edit the features of the kit.
Not our fault the company wont buy 2k8 :)
