Project Description

Forum and blogging software that is used to run http://on10.net, http://channel8.msdn.com, http://edge.technet.com and more. This project also contains a variety of tools and source that is used on the sites and in the day-to-day content production and site maintenance.

History

The EvNet development team is responsible for designing, building and maintaining a variety of Microsoft community sites, including Channel 9, Channel 10, Channel 8, Mix Online and TechNet Edge. For those sites, we created a forum and blogging system that we call "EvNet" and that was first used when we launched Channel 10.

Hi EvNet Team,

Is there *any* chance you guys are likely to get the EvNet source up anytime soon (i.e. next few weeks)? I am architecting/developing the next generation version of a hosted elearning platform which I believe has a similar architecture to EvNet (one web app with multiple sites identified by URL (UI/entry points), single entity data/object model, SOA) and would find it very, very helpful to see some of the implementation choices you have made. We are in the first third of the development and it would be nice to get my hands on the code for inspiration and to have a proven reference to measure against (there's going to be nothing more frustrating than going in one direction with an element of our solution to find out once we finished it that you had implemented a more elegant solution! - and we missed out!).

Anyway, I appreciate you guys have higher priorities than me and my developments (all the more obvious for watching the recent C9 videos on EvNet/the EvNet team - which was really good btw.), but it would be helpful to at least know if it is on the near horizon or whether I should just resign myself to the fact that it will not be available in time to be useful on this particular development cycle for us.

Keep up the good work though and big kudos for your approach to the being open, sharing and community minded! - It helps me to be all the more a fan of the seamingly 'new' Microsoft!

Those files are merely the front end of the original Channel 9 and are not in a buildable state... we put them up for people's interest only... when we put up the source that runs behind the current channel 9 then it will be in a fully runnable state.

We have downloaded the Evnet source code files , but when we tried to build the project it showed errors rearding the non availability of some namespaces. We tried to search for these namespaces in the downloaded list of files, but these dll's were not there among the downloaded files. Below are the List of namespaces that project failed to identify

RELEASED: Channel 9 UI Elements April 22, 2008 (Apr 22, 2008)

Small release to bundle up two of our AJAX based controls used as part of the web site UI on Channel 9, Channel 8, on10.net, Mix and Edge. This release includes a 'messagebox' control that is used to display a message to the user, optionally having it hide after a certain # of milliseconds, and can be configured from either the server or client side. A button control is also included, with client and server side support as well, and support for a disabled state. Both controls are designed to be completely skinnable and leverage the Microsoft Ajax framework. Also includes a set of useful javascript functions including query string parsing, element manipulation and scrolling functions.
