New Post: Content Types in Faceted Search

Hi,

The set up and install of the faceted search worked great. However, I am having one issue.

Some content types that I have created in SharePoint are not showing in the 'Content Type' section. I have run a few tests and found the following:

List content types work fine
Document Content Types using word as the application return a display name of "application/vnd.ms-word.document.12". The count is correct. However, when I click on the mapping it returns no search results
Document Content Types using Excel as the application return a display name of "Excel 12" as per the default mapping. The count is correct. However, when I click on the mapping it returns no search results.

Have I missed a step somewhere here to configure document content types?

Commented Feature: Allow facets to work with advanced search

If facets are used, users can not use the advanced search page (on MSSE2008). The result says like "Advanced search is not supported"

One of the way I can think of is by modifying the Advance Search to send its variables in the query string as except Properties Contains query I think all other quesries can be converted to Query String.

Hi,

This dll could not be loaded:

I tried to redeploy right now and I get following error:

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.

For the fixes (we use MOSS 2007 SP1, Blackout Fixes, and this build 12.0.6317.5000). English. This doesn't matter here ;). We got this errors when we applied the Blackout fixes and the build 6317!

Can you provide details on what you've patched and what are the error messages in the Event log

Hi Henk,

Did you use a facet that has a corresponding managed property? I tried to recreate this error and I get it if I add a facet that does not correspond to a managed property.

The default install for Faceted Search worked just fine for me on MSS 2008. But when I added an additional facet following the "Faceted Search Config Guide" I get the following problem in my WebPart:
"Property doesn't exist or is used in a manner inconsistent with the schema settings. Managed properties don't contains the facet: <name>" where name is the name of the facet I had added.
And then the WebPart does not show any result.

What did I miss?
I would appreciate if someone has a advise to solve this issue.

I have the need to be able to drill down into a facet. I.e. have a parent facet that I would like displayed initially and then once I have chosen a parent facet is it possible at that time to display the child facets. Sort of like a category / sub category type of thing. One way I think this could be done is to conditionally display or hide a facet until such time as another facet has been chosen.

Another thing I would like to be able to do is to chose to exclude a facet from the results rather than just include a facet as is currently the case.

From the diggging I have done, there does not seem to be a way to do either of these things but perhaps I am wrong.

Any possibility that these features could be considered for a future release?

Hi,
I am getting an error when I try to preview "Search Facets" Webpart.
Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Adding this Web part to a page leads to the same error.
There is no problem, however, with Search Breadcrumbs, just with Search Facets.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

First of all, looking forward to the 2.5 release. Faceted search is a great feature to bring into search.

So, my numbering problem;
Have set up a facet to handle content types (ows_ContentTypes(Text)) which seems to be working fine. However, when I do a search, the facet "Report" (one of our contet types for document) shows up with 4 hits. If I then select that facet, the new SharePoint search show a total of 5 hits while Faceted search still shows "Report (4)". So I investigated the results, and found out that one of the result in face was not a "Report" content type, but a "Budget and Forecast Report" content type. Had a chat with a coworker here, and he said that this is due to the fact that SharePoint uses contains not equal in its search. So, no I'm stuck, and looking for options to solve this. Getting the results for both content types when selecting report is not exactly a good thing... The only thing that I see as a solution at the moment is to have totally unique content type names.

Have anybody had the same problem? Any suggestions to how it can be solved?

Faceted Search gone Enterprsie

Starting the 2.5 release the solution will use Enterprise Library 3.1 for:

Logging and exception handling
Caching
Policy injection (perf-mon counters)
