Very strange.

You do have the .Net 2.0 Framework installed don't you?

Also, don't uninstall the screensaver as it might delete your hard drive... (and no, unfortunately I'm not joking).

OK, think I might have noticed the problem - so the installer is still removed.

The first official 'Codeplex' release.

I have updated the screensaver to require the .Net Framework 2.0, and hopefully have solved both the Threading issue and the out of memory issue (which might have been related).

Update: Fixed bug in user configuration.

Update 2: Hopefully fixed Vista bug.

Update 3: Deleted installer while I investigate a bug in the uninstall code.

I'm am very upset to hear of your problem.

I use Inno Setup to create the installer, and the only things it should uninstall are the files it has installed.

I downloaded and installed the latest version. It did not work (it could not find my Flickr account). I uninstalled it via the control panel, and my computer's hard drive began chugging heavily for a minute or two.

Soon after that, Windows File Protection dialogs began popping up, saying that my Windows system files had been replaced with "unrecognized versions". I immediately unplugged my computer from the network.

At the very least, it has corrupted my installation of Windows. At worst. . . .I don't want to think about it.

This was Windows XP Pro 64-bit.

I will post more info tomorrow after I have run some scans.

Hello,

It said it successfully installed on Window XP, however I can not configure it. I'm assuming I do so in the screensaver "settings." When I click on it nothing happens. I can not preview either. I am able to select "flickr" as the screensaver.

Please advise.

Hi Sam,

Another issue for you: when my network connection temporarily goes away (e.g. Verizon does overnight maintenance on my home machine, or when I walk between buildings at MS and lose wi fi), the screensaver throws an exception in the form of a modal message box. It would be great for it to do something more graceful, and to not require me to dismiss the message box to recover.

Hi Sam,

I used your reply to figure this out, but the answer is pretty much the opposite of what you said:

Your current installer places the files into the SysWOW64 directory.

I copied them to the System32 directory and the screensaver started working.

A quick google reveals that screensavers need to be installed in the SYSWOW64 directory - rather than the System32 directory.

If you can copy the files over (Flickr.scr, FlickrNet.dll and log4net.dll if I remember correctly) it should then appear.

Hope that helps, and I will try and work out how to make the installer know the difference...

Hi Sam,

I've got your screensaver working really well on a regular Vista machine, but I can't get it working on a 64bit Vista machine.

The install appears to succeed, and the screensaver options dialog box shows up fine at the end of the installation. But when you close the options dialog and the installation completes, the screensaver doesn't show up in the list of screensavers installed on the machine.

Sam, it works great! Thank you very much for getting it working on Vista. I've got installed on two machines already.

Just one quibble: Your "tag/set not found" error message should suggest signing in. When I first typed a set name, it wasn't found because it was private, so I had to authenticate.

REALLY great screensaver.

I've just published a new version of the setup file - this time it does work (cause I've tested it).

I had to rename to screensaver file to Flickr.scr as well as install it to the windows\system32 directory to get it to work...
