Closed Issue: E-Learning Action - error

Hi,
After uploading a file to the Learning objects repository , if i click on the E-learning actions am getting an error as :
An error occurred. More information may be available in the server event log.
And in the event log it says :

This is a bug in SLK. The Compression code in SLK has undergone a rewrite as part of the 64 bit port so I am closing this issue for now, if it reoccurs with the updated SLK 1.3.1 we can reopen it.

Has anybody had issues with MyChildren webpart not being able to connect to AD security groups? If so, could you please tell me how you got round it?

Error occcured while retrieving user's children and returned with message An operations error occurred.

I also get this error, when trying to assign an assignment:

There isn´t source code available for compile 64 bit SLK with observer role
Comments: 64 bit SLK with Observer Role now exists in SLK 1.3.1. Integration between LG and SLK will solve this issue.

Announcements

The license for Learning Gateway has been changed to the Microsoft Public License (MsPL) which is an OSI certified Open Source license.
The source code for Learning Gateway has been uploaded into the Codeplex source control system in anticipation of accepting patches and improvements from the community.
Community contributions are welcome!

The Microsoft Learning Gateway Refresh for MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0 is available for download. Functionality

•IMS Upload
The IMS Upload web part is an import front-end to a SharePoint document library that populates the document library with learning-specific columns defined within the IMS or SCORM metadata.

•Meta Search
The Meta Search web part provides metadata search on IMS or SCORM learning objects in a document library.

•My Classes
My Classes populates a list of the class sites that the user is a member of. It is based on My Teams web part from MLG 2005.

•My Children
My Children retrieves the logged on parent's children and their pictures and provides a filter to other web parts on the page that reflect a parent view of data for their child.

•My Planner
My Planner shows the current users' Exchange mailbox & calendars, SLK events for the current user, and SharePoint events for the current user.

New features in the June 2007 Refresh

Deployment process, templates and application web parts rebuilt for compatibility with MOSS, SharePoint Portal Server 2007 and WSS 3.0.
Deployment process refined for ISA 2006, SQL 2005 and Exchange 2007.
Provision to introduce Forms Server as an optional component.
Introduction of ISA 2006 forms based authentication.

Introduces SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) at appropriate points.
Class Server has been retired.
A new document library based Learning Object Repository has been added with automatic META data extraction and complimentary META based search.

Introduction of Blogs, Wiki’s and My Sites.
Better use and strategic placement of Discussions, Surveys and Lists.
Better use of current and global navigation.
Improved granularity of audience targeting for documents, list items and news.

The only release of the Learning Gateway includes a 1.3.0 SLK sharepointlearningkit.wsp replacement. I appreciate it's only a beta release but what is the situation with SLK 1.3.1, is this not compatible with LG or does the sharepointlearningkit.wsp bundled with it incorporate changes made for LG?

1.3.1 has work specifically to make integration with LG possible -- support for the Observer Role which was added to a customized version of SLK by the LG folks a while back. That said, I'm not intimately familar with LG so I don't know if there are further integration steps required to get SLK 1.3.1 working with the LG bits.

LG is coordinated by Microsoft and marketed, as is the SLK, perhaps there should be some serious coordination discussions here as this is causing some major headaches in the market place and is not good for all involved!

OK, Cliff Lloyd at Microsoft is a Coordinator of the Learning Gateway project. He's looked into this issue a little and has this analysis:

"The MLG provides a cool feature that lets you provision a course site in a single action that auto provisions SLK as part of the template. Without this feature, a school would have to manually set up SLK for each active class which was a major pain point. The problem is that the way Sharepoint templates work is that you must associate a web part to a template inside a file called ONET.XML – the association is made based on a specific version for a registered “safe” web part. As this version changes with each SLK release, the auto provisioning breaks."

Here are the actions I'm taking based on your feedback:

1. I've asked Cliff to make me a coordinator on the MLG project since I'm fairly involved with Codeplex :-) Cliff has agreed.
2. I've suggested that we can use the community to make updates to MLG in the same way the community is making updates to SLK. Cliff was looking to paying a vendor to make this change to MLG and for various reasons it hasn't happened yet.
3. Once I'm co-ordinator on the MLG Codeplex site, I will clean it up to make it easier to accept submissions. I define this as:
a. Changing the license from a custom license (which is very permissive) to the same license SLK uses -- the MsPL -- which is an OSI approved license which can genuinely be refered to as "Open Source".
b. Moving the source code from a Zip file into the Codeplex repository so we'll get proper change tracking, source control, patch support, etc.

This will enable a community member to not only bring MLG and SLK back in sync, but will also allow you to start moving forward the functionality of MLG in the same way that you have SLK.

Attached is the modified PlannerData.Exch Data.cs – sorry it’s not a patch or wsp but we’re still in testing mode on MLG with SLK 1.3.2, not the v1.0.0 released with MLG. If you want to try this new version let me know.
