I found the problem was in how I customized simple.master. It worked fine for one site but not another.
I think it is has problems accessing the location of some images or the css file.
I am going to try to placing the needed files somewhere else or take a different approach.

I have experienced the very same issue and i have found a solution for it, i think this may help
In the web.config, in the <compilation section>

change this line:
<compilation debug="true" batch="true">
to this:
<compilation debug="true" batch="false">

Hello,

How can I see the lists used by the application?

I had installed the sources from May 10 2007 and everything works fine. Now, I am trying to customize the Membership Request Web Part and I want to customize the lists.

I've found on http://www.codeplex.com/SPListDisplaySetting how to do that, but I don't have the second feature from the picture "Display Settings (powered by Bewise)"
I tried to install The SPListDisplaySetting.msi from http://www.codeplex.com/SPListDisplaySetting/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=11136
I found that it must be run directly on the SharePoint Server (WSS 3.0 or MOSS) with administrator's rights and I did that, but I get an error and the installation stops.

Any advice will be very helpful,

I had installed the sources from May 10 2007 and everything works fine.
I tryed to customize the Membership Request Web Part and I did with success. I added new fields on it. My problem is that I can't see the lists, so I can't modify the lists structure.

Can you help me to explain how to make to be able to see / edit the lists?

Well, where I ended up was creating a new site and replacing the file system core.css with my customized styles for the custom masterpage, all which worked. Fortunately for me I did all my customization to the styles, ot the master.page. But this remains a bug, IMHO, since I think you should be able to customize a masterpage and or styles for the root default.aspx in SP Designer and still have that work with anonymous access.

Hi all,
Just read these posts from last year. Any solutions uncovered for this "bug" since then?. In my case, I have a customized Masterpage but only my default.aspx page in the root seems to pop the 401 error for anonymous users. A refresh then loads the page fine.

fyi, resolved the issue by doing the following:

uninstalled the solution and reinstalled

how to uninstall: http://www.codeplex.com/MOSSFormsFeature/Thread/View.aspx?ThreadId=26093

browsed to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS, opened log-in.aspx and copied all into login.aspx.
checked permissions on webconfig in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\<webapplicationname>

guys, regarding my problems, ive created a deploy.cmd & undeploy.cmd for this solution.
please copy the folling into a text file (notepad) and save as a .cmd

Deploy.cmd

Note:

deploy.cmd can be installed via a double click of the cmd file once created.
undeploy.cmd needs to be ran from command prompt.

Example: C:\PublicData>undeploy http://<servername>

use the uninstaller if you are having issues/errors while trying to redeploy the solution after manually removing. i believe you get an error regarding: "ID **** of this feature is already installed, please use -force to reinstall

Completed the install and followed the instructions, now when i click on login my browser heads towards the following address:
http://<SERVER>/_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2Fdefault%2Easpx

"The webpage cannot be found"

Note: before installed solution, it would go towards login.aspx.
any ideas?

NEW POST: Not authorized to view Extended Web Application (FBA)

I've followed one tutorial that explains how to set up FBA in SharePoint. But, after I've done configuring all three sites - Central Site, Base Application and Extended - when I try to access the extended application, I encounter HTTP Error 401.1 - "You are not authorized to view this page".

Lemme explain what I've done, deviated from the tutorials. As my IIS has already given port 80 to base SharePoint application, I set another port number to my extended application. I did so because I don't exactly know how can I configure 'HOSTS' file. I am not able to touch DNS, too.

In that, I decided to use http://<baseAppName>:XXXXX/ . But, as I mentioned, I am getting 401.

Help is much appreciated.

No the control will work at any level. Sorry i'm not sure why you are getting this error yet. I need to reproduce it in my environment before I can work out what is going on.

Hi,I have meet the same problem as slawton while adding the web part,the pop-message is "User Administration: The site http://Portal:6666?PageView=Shared could not be found in the web application SPWebApplication Name=SharePoint - 6666 Parent=SPWebService."
The url of the page I added the web master to is http://portal:6666/sites/form/userAdmin/default.aspx ,I have tried to add the web part to page :http://portal:6666/sites/form/pages/default.aspx,but it still didn't run.
What can I do?Can you give some advice to me?

I am trying to configure default zone from windows authentication to forms authentication to use the active directory users.I have configured the webconfig for the site ,to use forms authentication with active directory.
Now when i tried the url i am getting the sign page and when signed in it is give me accesssdenied page.
I want to know can i configure the webconfig to use FBA,as there are two zones in that web application.If so ,how can the other zone uses the windows authentication.
Second thing i want to know is after signing in it is not taking me to the desired destination url, which when signed with windows authentication will take me.
So,how can i redirect the page to my site url

I have one web application with 3 site collections. In default site collection form authentication works in others don't. I get Access denied message when I create new site collection in Central Admin. As I can see I can only set forms authentication for Web application not for site collections, is that right?
