No I don't have 2008, just 2005.
And the system was just installed 2 weeks ago.
System.dll: 2.0.50727.3031

I also used this tool to get the versions: http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html
It gives this output:

.NET FW 1.1 SP 1
.NET FW 2.0 SP 2
.NET FW 3.0 SP 2
.NET FW 3.5 SP 2

So apparantly this is the cause then... I don't know where SP2 came from because I didn't install VS2K8.
Is the final released already?

Would it be feasible for you to give a more descriptive message, e.g that the current framework isn't supported yet. Instead of 'Not available'.
And maybe a list of framework versions that are supported and the ones installed. Or a link to this tool to check the versions, or...

Improve the verbose output of Netmassdownloader also to include the assembly version numbers and for missing pdb downloads make a check list and tell if this pdb's cannot be found that this version is not supported nor published the source codes by Microsoft.

The latest version of mscorlib microsoft provides source codes for is 2.0 SP1 (Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista SP1) 2.0.50727.1434.

Did you accidentally installed SP1 Beta For VS2008 , which also installs SP2 Beta For .Net Framework 2.0?

It seems you installed the sp1 beta for the VS2008 , that is the reason you cannot download the source codes, because they are not available as far as i know. I made already an entry about this in the Source Server Forum and mailled also Shawn Burke about the issue , but i still got no response from them.

Well I tried on another machine and there it indeed all works, with the same commands. :-s

I don't know what the difference is, it can't be the proxy because it works for 3.5 but 2.0 doesn't do anything...

netmassdownloader -f "c:\Winnt\Microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\System.dll" -output c:\dev\NetFXSource -verbose seems to be working fine.
Also
netmassdownloader -d "c:\Winnt\Microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727" -output c:\dev\NetFXSource -verbose seems to be working fine.

I downloaded the System.pdb , System.Windows.Forms.pdb without any problems including their source codes.

I'm having the same problem...
I can download the .NET 3.0 files (system.speech) but for the 2.0 I constantly get 'Not Available' with version 1.3.
Version 1.2 doesn't work anymore.

If using the proxy switch the application fails with an exception.

To fix, modify line 316 in Utility.cs (from DownloadLibrary) removing the quotes around groupname since this is a variable and not a string...

Hi Everyone,

I plan to create a new feature entry in the issue tracker with number :

I plan to add another switch to the netmassdownloader , which will use a text file to find out the pdb guids required to download the pdb's and source codes for assemblies.

This will help us to download the source codes directly without installing .Net Framework RTM 3.5 .

I will try to keep the text files so updated as possible,
or for community help i will also provide another switch , so for example you guys with RTM Version bla bla for 64 bit , which i won't have can create the text files and send to me, so i can make them published.

For example:

The build of the .NET Framework that we recently released source for was 2.0.50727.1433, which was the VS2008/.NET 3.5 RTM build. A small change was made to the Framework after that, and this new version, 2.0.50727.1434, was then delivered to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista SP1.

Since the source and symbols have to exactly match what's running on a developer's machine, this meant that customers running these new OS releases lost the ability to access the Reference Source for the parts of the .NET Framework that we've released. The new symbols and source have now been deployed for the following:

Closed Feature: Don't re-download files that already exist on disk

It would be useful if the downloader knew that files already existed on disk, and didn't re-download them. This would allow the download process to resume half-way through instead of always starting at the beginning each time. I don't think there's much point in restarting an individual file half-way through, so you can avoid having to implement partial downloads.

Also a side note, that the download fails if you point the output folder to an existing symbol store, because there are folders in it with names matching pdb's. Eg: \cache\System.pdb\DFE5894244DC4F3CB4C87F2071A688A51\System.pdb, and the mass downloader tries to overwrite the folder with the downloaded .pdb file and fails with a very unhelpful error message. (It says: "No matching PDB file on symbol server for", instead of "I downloaded the pdb file, but when I tried to extract it into the output folder, I couldn't because there's a folder there already with the same name")

- Allow to process DLL or EXE files in sub-folders recursively (in addition to the top directory).
- Allow to cleanup temporary compressed *.pd_ files.
- Allow to download retail symbols for native DLL or EXE files from the Microsoft Symbol Server (msdl.microsoft.com) (by setting UseReferenceSourceServer to "false" in NetMassDownloader.exe.config).
- Make the URLs of the symbol servers configurable in NetMassDownloader.exe.config.
- Allow to specify whether to download only symbols without source code via the setting DownloadSourceCode ("true" by default) in NetMassDownloader.exe.config.
- Use the original date-time of files from the server if available.
- Download is now asynchronous, the download progress can be seen for each file (symbol or source code).
- Improve the console output. It is less verbose and now easy to read.
- Allow to resume download remaining source code files for an existing symbol file (by setting SkipExistingSourceFiles to "true" (default value) in NetMassDownloader.exe.config).

I already posted this on the reference source server forum, it seems they didn't released the source codes for that in beta state.
Because with sp1 vs2008's sourcecode download doesn't work also.

i've installed VS 2008 SP1 Beta (including .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta). It seems that the downloader will not work with this version.

Offline debugging for VS2005 , VS2008 , Codegear and VS2008 Express Edition.

Thanks to Doug’s efforts we have the following improvements in this release.
