-calendar items with specified category (to easily filter them out of normal calendar view)
-special startup parameter to hide the sms notifier screen during startup, if started with for example -h parameter, the setting screen shouldn't be shown, but sms notifier should be activated in the background
-more details in calendar logging: add phone number of caller in notes, add number of caller in calendar item title when the number could not be found in contact list, add info if an sms message has been send to the contact or not.
-add support for option to auto reply on incoming sms'es. (low priority)

CREATED ISSUE: SMS Notifier does not send SMS till previous missed call notification is not cleared.

Hi,

I have double checked , verified and very sure of this small issue. SMS Notifier does not send SMS in case the Notification of a previously missed call is not dismissed. To replicate the issue you can perform the following steps. I have an HTC TyTN II running Windows Professional 6. Factory supplied ROM no modifications.

1. Activate SMS Notifier and set the various options as per requirement.
2. Call the cell phone running the SMS Notifier from another cell phone and let the call end as a missed call.
3. SMS Notifier will dispatch the SMS message to the calling cell phone.
4. The cell phone running the SMS Notifier will now show a missed call icon on the top menu bar as well as the Notification button in the task bar at the bottom.
5. Do not clear the notification by pressing the Notification Option.
6. Call the cell phone running the SMS Notifier again and let the call end as another missed call. Call can be from any cell phone, even a different one.
7. This time the SMS Notifier will not send any SMS back to the calling cell phone.
8. Now you will have 2 missed calls in the cell phone and the Notification button will still be present on the cell phone running the SMS Notifier.
9. Now clear both the notifications by pressing the Notification button and clearing all Notifications.
10. Repeat procedure to verify.

Summary: The SMS Notifier application will not send any SMS till the previously generated missed call Notification is cleared by the user. On a separate note the SMS Notifier is a fantastic utility application and I cannot imagine using my HTC TyTN II without it. However having to manually clear the Notifications in order to keep it running is something that should be addressed.

Hi,

Sorry for missing your message and coming back into this so late.

It should be installed at \Program Files\SMS Notifier, added at Programs and a shortcut added into Startup folder (so it should autostart when you boot your device). Are any of those available?

Project Description

SMS Notifier watches for incoming calls that are missed (i.e. not answered). Depending on configuration settings it does the following things: 1) Send an SMS message to the caller (configurable contents), possibly containing also the end time of current appointment (configurable). 2) Adds an item to calendar (containing the caller info)

Background

I originally built this mobile application as a sample for Mobiiliohjelmointipäivä (mobile software development) -seminar in Tampere University of Technology at 19.12.2005. Since then I have also shown it to the students of Mobiiliohjelmointi (Mobile software development) -course lectured at TUT and distributed live also to Universities of Tampere, Oulu, Turku and Helsinki as well as Helsinki University of Technology. The video recording of my lecture as well as the slides are available via the course home page. The content there is mostly in Finnish. I have also shown it as an example application in numerous events where Windows Mobile has been presented.

Why Codeplex?

I originally distributed the app through my personal blog page within blogs.msdn.com and Microsoft internal ISP hosting service. As time passed and the app got more famous I decided to move it into a more official hosting platform. And more importantly to an environment that would allow others to join me in developing it further. Codeplex is based on Team Foundation Server, a platform for distributed software development with many kinds of lifecycle tools included. Within Codeplex I get to see how it really feels in production.

Requirements

The application requires the following to run:

Windows Mobile 5/6 -based Windows Mobile Professional (=Pocket PC Phone) device or starting from version 1.3 Windows Mobile Standard device
.NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 (download)

I have tested it on a QTEK 9100 device (description in finnish) as well as HTC TyTN WM5 & WM6, but it should run on other Windows Mobile 5/6 Pocket PC Phone devices as well.

Starting from version 1.3 a version for Windows Mobile Standard version (= Smartphone) is also available. I haven't had a chance to try it out on a real device, so there might be issues. Please report them via the issue tracker here on codeplex.

Installation instructions

Just get the .CAB file from releases to your device and run it. It will run the setup and you should be all set.

Requirements for development

If you want to participate in the development you will need the following:

Visual Studio 2005 Standard or better
Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard/Professional SDK Refresh
Team Explorer (for connecting to Codeplex source control etc)

Hi, I just tried to install the Notifier program on a Fujitsu-Siemens PocketLooxT by running the CAB file directly on the mobile device.

The PocketlooxT is running WindowsMobile V5.0
OS 5.1.195 Build 14955.2.3.0

The installation goes of with no errors.
However, after installation, the program is no where to be found??

Any ideas?

Hmm, I did some investigation on HP iPAQ 6315, and it seems that it is Pocket PC Phone 2003 device, which is not supported at all since it does not have the WM 5.0 additions that I am using in the app. I think you are out of luck unless you can find a ROM upgrade to at least Windows Mobile 5.0 for your device. It should officially come from HP, but I doubt they have it available (haven't investigated that one though).

Thank you for your fast reply. I appreciate it.
I have now install the ".NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2" on my device and it reacts differently when I am trying to run it. It returns an error of missing a file(-library).Specifically,it is missing the 'Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status,Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35'
Can you help me with this? Have I to install any new libraries or copy any files to my device?

...but it didn't run appropriately.
I have to mention that I didn't run the ".NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2" on my device nor on my PC, but I have installed the latest .NET framework on my PC. But, I think the PC have nothing to do with the problem as I am running the *.cab file from my PPC device.

What do you mean by it not running appropriately? How does it behave?

You do need to have compact framework installed on the device, I believe you will have an error telling that it is not installed in that case.

Known issues

It seems that SMS Notifier won't start on devices with WM5 AKU 3.X. It crashes on a missing dependency on Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status, which seems to be different on those devices. If anyone with such a device is willing to investigate further, I am glad to accept any help.
On WM6 the calendar times seem to be a few hours off, I will need to investigate that.
