SharePoint 2007 WCM Field Controls

New Post: Error Creating Control - Value cannot be null

I'd be grateful if someone could advise how to resolve this issue? This field control has been implemented in a SharePoint site and whilst it was working OK, it is now presenting this issue whenever I try to update existing pages hosting the control or create new pages.

I need to fix this issue to prepare a demo site ASAP.

In testing this control, I have attempted to use file names that trip validation. Using a remote debugger, i can see that I am hitting "base.IsValid = false;" in Validate() when I use an invalid file extension. However, I'm not getting any feedback from the validator on the edit view of the page. Have I done something wrong, or is validation not showing up for anyone else?

Hi,

I have been trying to use the Multimedia Field Control but I did not succeed. I walked through the Installation Instructions in the MultimediaFieldControlSample.doc file. Everything went fine except at the last part where I have to use SharePoint Designer to add the Multimedia Field Control. I drag the control and drop it in any place in the page. The control displays the following error:

"An unhandled exception has occourred. Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldMultiColumnValue' to type 'Sample.WebControls.MultimediaFieldValue'.

Any ideas to solve my problem?

Actually, I didn't. The control works even when you get this error.

Hi Thomas,

The non-use of the AssetUrlSelector was simply an effort on the part of the original developer to keep this sample simple. We will be increasing the flexibility of this sample significantly in the near future.

Yup, we are aware of the deployment problem and will be fixing that in the next release.

Hi there!

Just curious: why don't you use the AssetUrlSelector (like the sample on MSDN does) to allow the user to select the multimedia file, instead of having to type it in?

Otherwise the packaging is great. However the installer did not add the SafeControl line to my web.config automatically; I had to do it by hand.
