The procedure I've seen is: install sql express, install sql server management studio express, install sql server samples. Then in studio click help->tutorial, scroll down to requirements and click the link on how to install the samples, scroll down to installation after setup and follow the instructions. Opps, nevermind, that procedure is NOT for the express edition.

The adventure works samples are at http://www.codeplex.com/MSFTDBProdSamples/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=4004 . God knows what this page is for. After installation look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data for Adventure works. Go into Management Studiom right click on databases and Attach. Select the AdventureWorks_Data file.

I have installed Spatial DB it but the code for poly latlon only works for very large geographic area. I have tried creating small polygon and checking but none of them returns the corresponding points inside the polygon. It will be great, if anyone can help me with this.

cant see what your all complaining about. Presumabley you wanted to install somthing you couldn't find on your system already, after installing its now there! you wouldn't just choose to install the samples for no reason would you? just take your FREE samples and stop complaining about nowt!

Why is an installation package needed for code samples and the sample database. There is no control over how the database is installed onto my server. Just a .bak file or .mdf to attach to would have been sufficient. Wrap this into a .zip file for us to pick and choose which components we would like to use. One size fits all is for suckers!

If you're looking for the Northwind database, this is not for you. Some general documentation would have made this a better package. Also a standard installation in the Program Files doesn't make sense to me, it's not an application.

Uh, ok. Only thanks to some nice people here I know where the installation is.
But now, how do I use the examples? I would never touch a MS product again, if it weren't for my customers, binded to MS by monopoly.
Why does microsoft always mean bad documentation?
I just need a database with some tables and a connection string. Shouldn't take so long.

Good Stuff. There are few directories in Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples directory. Go to bottom level in the folder hierarchy There is a readme.html file in every directory to see tutorial.

I am a newb I downloaded the SQLServerSamples.msi It goes into Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples\ by default When you run the msi it automatically adds the sample db to your MSS Management Studio in the Object Explorer in Databases in your default Server. No Management Studio? Installation error? - It won't add the workstation components of SQL2005 if you have SQLXpress b4 installing

I watched the folder the samples were to supposed to be extracted to ...no database .mdf files ever were copied / extracted to or otherwise put in that folder... I sure am gald I didn't pay money or give my credit card info YOU GUYS SUCK

The absence of any documentation, or even the hint of where documentation might be found makes this worse than useless to the SQL Server newb. Presumable this package was put together with the express intention of detering beginners. You certainly suceeded with me. I won't bother visiting this awful site in future.

Easy to install. For those that like to click 'Next" without reading would miss where it was being installed. Maybe the finished screen should have a link to the location of where it was installed for those who miss it.

This was a horrid experience. I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with the fact that this didn't install Northwnd. I would expect at least that. I mean, that was the whole point of installing the sample DBs.
I'm sorry I can't give more useful advice, but the fact is you guys need to start over from ground zero. This is terrible.
