Project DescriptionTravel Icons is a small application for the PocketPC / Smartphone that can be used to display signs or pictograms to people who don't understand you or can not read. It is a visual aid for communication.

| Pictograms can be organised by using (sub)categories. The images are stored on disk and each folder represents a (sub)category. Nested folders can be used for creating subcategories. Pictograms can be any image file with one of these extensions: bmp, jpg, jpeg, wmf, emf, png, gif | Each subcategory is identified by a red name. | Clicking a pictogram displays the pictogram in a big scale. A helptext can be displayed to support the pictogram with a short sentence or a keyword. | Categories can be added/edited and deleted. | Help text are short texts that can be displayed when showing a pictogram. | A help text can be identitied by a language, the untranslated text (for you to look up what to display) and the translated text (displayed on the device). |
There are no pictograms included in the setup beacuse of possible copyrights. You can build your own collection and store the pictograms on a storage card (the application has an option to specify the location of the pictograms)
TODO
- Better translation support, finding the right text to display is difficult because there's no filter or search option
- Add option to specify description text of a pictogram.
- Create default icon set to include in the setup (If you have a copyright & roalty free set of images I may use please let me know!)
UsageCan be used when traveling to countries where communication is difficult because of lack of language knowledge. Or for mentally handicapped persons or little childeren.
Copy your images to the folder specified in the "Settings" form (defaults to the location where the application is installed)
Requirements
Known Issues
- Large collection of images with large sizes can result in out of memory exceptions. Try to split the collection into smaller categories. Do not use large sized images. Small (40x40) images are good!
- Building a list of folders on the device may take some time when picking a folder in the "Settings" form. Please be patient.
