The Alpha version of the MSF for Scrum process template has been released!

steveley wrote  Jan 25 2007 at 6:49 AM
Was this developed in conjunction with the Microsoft folks who did 'MSF for Agile' and 'MSF for CMMI'?

mazocar wrote  Jan 25 2007 at 5:35 PM
No this was not, I have removed the reference to MSF from the name. We have invited MS to contribute.

mazocar wrote  Jan 25 2007 at 6:00 PM
v0.2 Will not have MSF in the process template and should contain a first run of the process guidance.

mazocar wrote  Feb 8 2007 at 4:56 AM
We are working on V0.2 right now. Will be changing some of the work items and refining the fields a bit.

We are finalizing the process guidance site right now! A release will be coming soon.

Willy made a small fix to the process guidance to fix a JS error. Enjoy!

Is this template an improvement over the one released and supported by Conchango (http://www.scrumforteamsystem.com)?

mazocar wrote  Mar 5 2007 at 4:44 PM
We think so! ;)
Our goals were to make a light process template and to take advantage of the features of VSTS (like Areas and Iterations). We also do not require a Sprint Work item type and have taken pains to make values reportable from the warehouse.

We are getting close to a new release! This should fill in the reports and the template for the Project Portal. Then we will begin working on the Orcas version. *sigh*

Ok we are about to release the version 1.0!!! Today i am releasing the last beta version. This version of the template includes User Stories to all you to manage requirements within your projects. Let me know if you like it.

Cool, can't wait, to try them out. We currently evaluate the TFS, and the option to support SCRUM ist very important to me. Tank you.

mazocar wrote  Sep 15 2007 at 1:05 AM
Ack! It seems that the sharepoint stuff is broken in Orcas! Will have a fix out soon. Also will be release v1.0 -1 Tonighit. This is everything ready for version 1.0 of TFS minus the Scrum Burndown Report. ..I am taking a crash course in MDX :(

mazocar wrote  Sep 15 2007 at 2:14 AM

mazocar wrote  Sep 25 2007 at 8:25 PM

I found an issue with the stsadm command for the SharePoint template. The new packet has the corrected command.

Sorry for the problems!!!

mazocar wrote  Sep 29 2007 at 1:42 AM
Houston, we have a RELEASE!!! I got the Burn Down done thanks to MDX gurus Doug Mortensen and Ameya Bhatawdekar from Microsoft. Thanks!!! Enjoy the template while I look into the issue with Orcas and SharePoint...

Any considerations installing this with TFS 2008? (or is that included in your Orcas Beta 2 comment?)
Also, can you comment on feature comparison with eScrum 1.0? What might convince someone to choose this over eScrum?

mazocar wrote  Nov 20 2007 at 9:32 PM
Found some issues with the process guidance. I will be rolling those fixes into the next release.

mazocar wrote  Nov 20 2007 at 9:35 PM
Thanks for the interest!

eScrum is very difficult to install. The idea behind the Light Weight Scrum is to remove the impediments to getting up and running fast. Also, we use iterations for sprints and do not have them tied to a specific time period. That way you have flexibility in your burndown chart (i.e. You can have sprints with different lengths)

For 2008 you will need to modify the wsstasks.xml file. If you want a version of this file email me me@michaelazocar.com and I will send it to you.

We have a release for Visual Studio 2008! You can get it HERE: https://www.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ProjectName=VSTSScrum&ReleaseId=8539

I am working on the Work Item Definitions and the process guidance. Once I am done I will create new 2005 and 2008 releases.

I am currently evaluating TFS, and this looks very interesting... I am also keen to know the process/ tool that is used to develop/ design a guidance document that is depicted above.
