Created Issue: Deploy SSIS Packages to msdb and update date

Hi Guys,

The last couple of days I've been working at a site where BIDSHelper is not allowed in some environments, so while manually deploying packages (import via SSMS) I've had plenty of time to think of BIDSHelper enhancements. Anyway...

When deploying to msdb, it is hard to track when packages were deployed. The SSMS General report only gives you Package Creation Date, and the sysdtspackages90 table (for SQL 2005) only has a createdate column (presumably the same). These appear to be pulling the Package property CreationDate, which is usually static and somewhat meaningless (especially for cloned packages).

Can you please consider extending the Deploy SSIS Packages functionality so that after deploying to msdb it can set the sysdtspackages90.createdate column or similar to the deployment date/time. I guess this should be optional as it would be overwriting the standard functionality.

How can you right click deploy using BIDS Helper and set the "rely on server storage for encryption" option?

Looks like that's just the /Encrypt switch on dtutil. So I suppose you would deploy as normal then run another dtutil call with the /Encrypt switch to encrypt it? We'll consider implementing this, but I doubt it's at the top of the list for enhancements, honestly.

There is no direct support on codeplex to linking a release to a specific change set, but we could try to remember to add a manual note of the change set number.

The new automated build script does this the other way, adding a note with the version number to the change-set. There was a slight hiccup with v1.4.1.0 which resulted in two change sets labelled with this number as this was the first time I ran the automated script. But all releases from now on should have a single change set listed with the version number.

I suppose you are removing the form class file as per your release checklist, but inadvertently leaving the referencing plugin class file? This is for versions 4933 and 52044. Excluding the plugin file from the project allows a build, but I've not yet tested the output.

Actually, this is an upcoming feature that's not complete yet. It has been added to the both the 2005 and SQL 2008 versions of the project - which one are you trying to build?

This is a suggested new feature for BIDSHelper - extend the VS Configuration Manager to allow filtered deployment of SSAS Roles.

The scenario is that you have two SSAS servers (Dev & Prod). You use VS Configuration to point to your Dev server, and build & test your SSAS project, including Roles for end-users. Then you change your VS Configuration & deploy to Prod. All good.

But going forward, you don't want the end-user Roles to be able to access your Dev SSAS databases. They might get confused and produce Production reports from the Dev server. But you don't want to delete those Role definitions from the SSAS Project - that would remove their access next time you deploy to Production. Gotcha!

So what I am suggesting is that the VS Configuration Manager be extended to allow filtering out some Roles by Configuration. The Roles would still be in the Project, but only get deployed when Configuration Manager allows it.

Alternatively, you can keep the roles, but have different members be deployed depending on the configuration. This way, the prod users will not be members in the dev db, but will be in the prod db.

Note that this will also be useful when dev and production are in different domains. Currently, if we add the prod users in the xml roles files, the application will not deploy to dev environment (fails due to lack of mapping), and vice versa.

Also, the advantage of this approach is that it allows you to test the prod roles permissions even in dev environment, albeit with different members.

Where's the missing link identifying what source was used to build the current install exe? Is it possible to add a comment to the downloads page to indicate what change set the current release was built from?

I'd rather not worry about building my own install packages, but we want to keep our own version of the project in VSS for compliance.

Closed Issue: Error saving aggregation #1

I am trying to use the most recent version of BIDS Helper to add a aggregation design to an existing design using the query log. When the Add Aggregations From QueryLog dialog comes up, the connection is somehow defaulted to the wrong server. I changed the connection and ran the query successfully. When I click on continue, I receive a message saying "Error savings aggregation #1: The key property (used as index in collection) is not defined.
This may be a valid error, but I don't know what it means.

Often in our SSIS development we leverage reuse of Package Configuration of SSIS variables and connection managers.
When we copy a packge to satrt a new package this package configration is alredy "wried up".
After using BIDSHelper Reset GUIDs the package configuration of the connection managers is broken.
This seems to relate to the inability of the package configuration to "point" to the newly assigned connection manager GUIDs.
I commented out this Reset GUID connection manager code section with successful results.
If this connection string reGUID and package configuration behavor cannot be overcome, can we prompt for which SSIS object types to reGUID?

Closed Issue: BIDS crashes when Dimension health check is run

When I run the dimension health check BIDS crashes each time I pick a dimension that is potentially inconsistent with the table definitions in DSV (select a dimension in BIDS, right click, select Dimension health check). It works fine when there are no consistency issues and comes back with the report "no problems found" -- therefore not very helpful :)

I am able to get a consistent repro for this. Environment: Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2005 SP2, BIDS helper 1.3.0.8. Does anyone know why this happens ?

Hi All,

I am looking into using a Boolean check box with the report parameter section to control the entry field. If the check is selected, update the CSV field with ‘*All*’, if false then remove the text from the CSV field and require the user to enter a value in SSRS.
