What is Blacklight?Blacklight is a UX focused code sharing project. Microsoft has released a bunch of technologies that allow designers and developers to work closely together to make beautiful software. This project is a collection of controls, samples, visual assets and ideas that has been put together by User Experience designers and developers to both show you what the technology is capable of (from a UX point of view), and give you code and samples that you can use in your own projects, completely free of charge (see the License tab above). Check out the showcase to see what is currently available...
SHOWCASE sites:Blacklight Showcase (Silverlight 2 RTW): http://mightymeaty.members.winisp.net/blacklight.silverlight/Click on the 'Releases' tab to get the latest code release! What technologies are currently supported by Blacklight?Currently, our controls, samples and showcase are built in Silverlight 2 and WPF. The current release has source code for the RTW release of Silverlight and WPF. Over time we will add more stuff for ASP.NET AJAX, XNA, Windows Mobile, Suface etc.
Who should use Blacklight?Blacklight is intended for designers and developers using Microsoft's rich UI technologies. We will try and ensure that all of our samples and controls provide a design time experience for expression Blend. Whether you are after a specific control or visual asset or are interested in how we put something together, just grab the latest release and use as you wish!
When will the next release be?We will try and do a release every month, with the new controls added and tested.
Can't wait for the next release?Never fear! You can download the latest source code from the Source Code tab above. Of course, it is possible that pre-release code will be a little bit more buggy as we might not have had the chance to test it fully.
Bugs & Feature RequestsPlease feel free to log any bugs or feature requests in the Issue Tracker. We will attempt to address them in order of popularity!
Who is involved in contributing to Blacklight?Blacklight is contributed to by User Experience designers and developers from Microsoft Consulting Services, UK. The project is coordinated by Martin Grayson (
