Created Issue: Fails on Vista Ultimate x64

I installed BMG on my Vista Ultimate x64 machine. It gives the following exception when I attempt to build a project or when clicking the menu 'Tools'->'Edit machine paths'. Is there a fix available for this problem?

Hello,

I have made a small prerequite which I have added a bootstrap for, and it works fine in most cases, however, it does NOT work when UAC is turned on (on a Vista machine). I have tried adding code which basically re-runs the application with elevation, and this works locally; however, the bootstrap seems to have a problem and always returns a failing code. Has anybody had any success doing this? I just need to throw a prompt similar to what many executables do when UAC is enabled: and allow them to install with the elevated permission.

Note that this is not only the case with Vista, but anyone who does not have administrative priveleges will need to have this happen. I have the code to do it, I just do not know why it isn't working in a bootstrap (tested in debug works perfectly as it should).

Hey all,

I require the need to create a "dummy" bootstrapper which will NOT allow installation of my clickonce release on a machine which runs Windows XP SP1. I want to FAILIF immediately, if this is the case. I know that there is (probably) a specific version I can check against; I am having trouble finding out what that might be. If someone could please help me out with the best registry key to check, it would be VERY much appreciated.

I'm using BMG for Visual Studio 2005. Is there a way to have the bootstrapper launch my application MSI with "REINSTALL=all REINSTALLMODE=vomus" for a minor upgrade if a previous version has been installed?

Changing of the Bootstrapper path does not have any effect. (I have two different Bootstrappers on the same PC, for VS2005 and VS2008).
Moreover, path in the quotes raises an Exeption.

2. Add an Install conditions for this Property.
3. Rename the Property
4. Try to modify Install conditions.

I have a requirement in which i need to create a Setup which installs the Pre-Requisite(if not installed) and then installs my application.

What's happening is that the pre-requisites themselves are driving the behavior, and are telling the bootstrapper (in essence) "you must reboot before installing the application". Part of this is that the ClickOnce app runs when installed, so the bootstrapper can't install the ClickOnce app, then reboot, then launch it.

If you truly want to force a no-reboot scenario, then you can edit the manfests of each package and set Reboot to None as per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229510.aspx

Hope this helps. Unfortunately there's no bootstrapper setting that says "ignore reboots"... because that can get pretty dangerous :-)

I am having a problem regarding rebooting and manifests. I would like to install several (anywhere from 1 to 5) prerequisites before a clickonce application can be run. This works fine, the prerequisites install perfectly, however a reboot is FORCED at the end of all installations. In otherwords, they all "defer" reboot until all installed, but then reboot is made with no warning or prompt. I did manage to see for a few seconds a dialog box pop up, but it was overridden and the machine rebooted anyway. How can I stop this from happening, and allow the prompt to control whether a machine reboots.

Note, also a few of my prerequistes have settings such as "reboot=ReallySuppress". Is this the proper setting to use? I have also tried using /promptreboot and it does seem to fire a prompt but the machine reboots anyway. What could be causing this?

You want to set the Value to SP as well, since that tells the registry check which registry Value to read and load into the Property.

You can set the Property to whatever you like, it's a local variable... it's the name you use in your InstallCondition, and what you have described won't quite work because the SP value is there even if the SP isn't installed, so you want

Okay, so I am fairly new to BMG, but would I set (Under SystemChecks\RegistryCheck)
Property For Result: SP
Registry Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727
Registry Value: v2.0.50727

And then in my executable:
Type: ByPassIf
Property: SP
Comparison: Exists
(In otherwords, bypass install if SP exists? I set it up this way and it still wants to install it on a machine with SP1 installed)

Bug occures and block whole program (only exit is killing process), when used Install Condition Property is used in Installation Conditions, but removed (Deleted) from Package / System Check.

To reproduce this bug follow next steps.

So I have uninstalled VS2008, but this did not solve the problem. Finally I have removed .NET 3.5 including .NET 3.0 SP1 and .NET 2.0 SP1 and re-installed .NET 3.0.
-> BMG works again.

I would like to switch to .NET 3.5 (or at lease .NET 2.0 SP1) ASAP.
Does anybody have the same problem or a work around?

I believe this is now fixed in the new version of BMG for VS 2008... this should fix that problem.
