New Post: When to expect a public beta or release?

Does anyone have an idea of scope of work and when to expect a public beta or release of CKS:EWE?

In addition it would be great if PMs post an exprected feature list. This enables the ability for other users to comment og suggest features before it's "too late".

Support for other editors - Telerik, TinyMCE, etc. Not sure if this is anything we can/should do

Customize rich text editor so clicking it's buttons adds appropriate markup to the page rather than RTF formatting. For example, selecting a word on a page and clicking the "bold" button will wrap the word in "**" or whatever token represents bold.

Would also likely require two views of the wiki page in edit mode - Presentation and editing.

A question about the support for other Editors. I use the EWE with the Telerik RadEditor and it works fine without any adjustments in the code. For me is was as easy as installing Telerik RadEditor and enable the feature. Is there a more advanced thought behind the support statement that I missed? Otherwise I can say the it already works with Telerik.
I have not done any customization of buttons though.

I think this would be great. Other wikis have this and I think it's rimes nicer with the WikiWiki meaning than checkin/checkout does.

I think this is more like a forums feature. However, do we have a way to "feature" a wiki article the way wikipedia does? That might be cool.

I vote hell no on this. Check-in / check-out and maybe post notification on the page itself that's it's checked out for editing by another user. Simultaneous edits would be a nightmare of content merges. handling 2 simultaneous edits probably wouldn't kill but imagine 3 or more. Yikes.

create a page in Word or OneNote and just "Publish" it to the wiki
roundtrip capability: word/onenote -->Wiki -->word/onenote or wiki -->word/onenote --> wiki. Including the ability to split documents into distinct wiki pages and then reassemble document after wiki editing

From Office docs to wikis are great but I see the bigger business problem in going the other way. Once you have 1000 wiki pages, how do you turn (portions of) that into a deliverable?

I see transclusion as one feature - a trick of the parser where you assign the wiki content of a page to a token and it gets copied into another page.

I see templates as having default content on a page when you create a new wiki page. This could give us the ability to override the existing default page when you type in a new page link as well as to create new pages of different templated page types (I'm thinking a la content types in the New menu)

A great addition to the wiki capabilities would be to somehow mark wiki content for inclusion (or exclusion) and generate a word document from marked pages. This would be a great way to use a wiki to generate deliverable documentation. Imagine using a wiki for software release notes and instructions internally at an ISV and then generating a document which can be delivered to an external customer as a PDF.

Transclusion seems like a neat trick but I think there is much more power in the template concept. I think this should be separated into two different tasks and ranked independently

I've worked with organizations where wikis are used for software requirements gathering purposes, but b/c the requirement can not be locked and still discussed, the requirements kept changing and the tool eventually had to be abandoned. I think it would be a great addition to create a read/write page, collab for a while, then lock the main content of the page into a read-only view while still allowing comments and discussions

make the tag cloud work with categories or get rid of the standard SharePoint categories and make it fully tag based.

Not only should there be a tag cloud for the wiki, but there should be a way to switch between the cloud and a list of the terms sorted by frequency a la del.icio.us. This is a great visualization option for those folks not savvy about tag clouds

I much prefer the way that MediaWiki does discussions - on a separate tab associated with the main content but not actually part of the content.
