The threads you've seen relating to the fact that Umbraco didn't suuport have to do with the Umbraco backend and not any websites which run on Umbraco - including Commerce for Umbraco. There shouldn't be any issues using either Commerce for Umbraco or Umbraco with SSL. We run many sites with the Checkout and Account sections under SSL and have not experienced any difficulty not already present in IIS.

One of my concerns is that I saw somewhere that Umbraco doesn't support SSL. Looking at the code checkins and such, I saw that they are adding SSL support for the backend in 3.1, but I couldn't find anywhere if it would be supported in typical webfronts. From some posts in the forum, I saw that it looked like SSL can be used, but it seemed tricky.

All of this is to ask if I can setup SSL with this ecommerce feature. As it stands now there is not a simple solution for the feature you describe. Certainly employing a 3rd-party search engine that is capable of indexing text-data stored in an RDBMS is a possibility. All of the product information (including Url's) is stored and ntext.

This is a feature on the roadmap for version 2.0, which is at least one-year away.

Hi Paul,

thanks a lot for your great work. I have some questions, as I am currently in need for a shop solution for umbraco.

Following situation is bugging me. I recently installed umbraco cms for a customer. I have a working installation of umbraco and made a new document type to display products and product informations. As I saw DashCommerce has its own table for products.

Would it be best to export and manage this products in the dashcommerce database? Could there be another way? I want to be able to use the umbraco search to make a product search and list the results? With dashCommerce there is now no such functionality. Can you give me advice as where should I hook in to use the umbraco built in search? Can a action handler be written, which hooks in when making a search and pass the query to a stored procedure. Afterwards the results should be passed back to umbracos search results...

Commerce for Umbraco - Preview Release 1 - update 5: 14 May 2008 We've addressed the last remaining known defects (to us) in dashCommerce 2.2 (now dashCommerce.Net). We've added in a working authentication and membership control set - these function in this build with the AspNetSqlMembershipProvider but are stubbed out to work with the Umbraco Membership provider (in Umbraco 3.1). We'll make this update prior to v1.0. This is planned to be the final preview build before the Beta 1 release.

Commerce for Umbraco - Preview Release 1, build 4 – 23 April 2008 In this build we’ve worked with PayPal to have a compliant PayPal checkout integration (PayPal Website Payments Pro) for both Direct Pay and Express Checkout. We’ve added built in Sandbox hooks to allow testing and production deployment on the same instance. We’ve also added in product attributes (size, color, etc…) and a product cross-sell display as well as a more generic product display control. Finally, we corrected issues with site configuration (see added sections in \dc4Umbraco\sample.config) and further enhanced the multi-host capabilities via domain configuration.

Commerce for Umbraco - Preview Release 1, build 3 This build adds the UPS Address Validation Provider for USA addresses - other countries are not checked. It also addresses some DashCommerce 2.2 defects in the handling of address input and validation. This build includes some simple and easy to implement User Controls for adding a user editable cart and checkout to Umbraco via Commerce for Umbraco. Finally, we've added in some AJAX for smoother updates and more robust checkout control.
