Created Issue: Notifications don't work...

When I try to configure Notification Settings and click "Test SMTP Server" I recive the message "An error has been encountered while processing the page. We have logged the error condition and are working to correct the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience."

What can be that?

Thanks for giving me an idea of how it works Tom. I was particularly curious because of the problems I had with patch creation (working on a branch would have solved that!). However, this is no longer a problem (thanks to Stefan at TortoiseSVN).

I am still interested in becoming a contributor. However, I am guessing there will be some talk about what happens with dasBlog after 2.11 goes out the door (and attention turns to 3.0?). So, I will hang fire until then (and I will submit the 4+ patches I have in the meantime).

Surely now Omar has had his head turned by Graffiti he no longer has the time for dasBlog politics? ;)

OK Ben I will attempt to give my viewpoint on commit rights to dasBlog.

The way things are right now, only three people can add developers, Scott Hanselman, Omar Shahine and me, (Tom Watts).

First, I am fine if either Scott or Omar choose to add a developer based on their judgment. (Talent, Commitment, and being a team player are sort of understood requirements...)

Second, let me say that everybody should consider me an account/product manager type, I do not consider myself to be an official technical developer, and therefore, it is doubtful I will ever add somebody as a developer without major coordination.

So saying that, if any two of the current dasBlog developers contact me with a developer recommendation I will almost certainly concur, and add the person nominated.

From my perspective it’s as simple as that, but this is an uncoordinated response, so Scott or Omar may have different opinions. :)

dasblog 2.1.8102.813 This is our initial CodePlex release, and it is predominately a bug fix release.

Use web files for blog install.
Use source files if you are developing.

NOTICE ****

While this release is fine for a new user, if you are currently a dasBlog user and have implemented your own custom macros, or third party macro's, they may no longer work.
It looks like one of the primary static classes got renamed, Utils to SiteUtils (or similar) which ended up breaking a lot of macros. Some third party macros impacted are from John Forsythe, as well as some from Vasanth Dharmaraj.

The Daily Builds/Unofficial Releases www.dasBlog.info/dailybuilds.aspx resolves most issues, but they are not tested!

Hi Tom,

I just tested the following item:

Added check to delete entry method: only admin or author is allowed to delete; (WLW editing allowed contributor to delete admin posts) [Not tested]

It worked for me. When I logged in as a contrib and tried to delete one of the existing posts, via Live Writer, I got an error dialog in WLW saying "Current user is not allowed to delete post" (or something close to that).

Version 1.9 has a bug that allows duplicate xml keys in content if date is changed and/or other actions happen/unknown such as language changes in VISTA???

Your options are to update to a later build of 1.9+ and/or manually search for that key and remove the dupe post entry and recreate it and let the system recreate a new key.

I don't understand why it's happening. There's no duplicate post in my files nor two files of the same date. I copied the content folder to a new content2 folder and change the siteConfig.xml file so the contentDir is ~/content2. The problem now is that it only shows posts from half a year back although all the posts files are there.

Created Issue: Aggregator Activity always shows 0s

When you login and go to the Activity screen, the Referrers screen shows a lot of activity for the current day and days (weeks) in the past. But when you view the "Aggregator Activity" page, nothing is showed. All values are 0 (zero).

I'm using:
* dasBlog version 2.1.8102.813 on Win 2003 R2
* Internet Explorer 7.0 (with IEPro v2.1)
* Voidclass theme

Created Issue: Remember Login doesn't work

If you select the "Remember Login" checkbox during the log-on procedure, it doesn't remember...

When I close my browser or simply wait about 30 minutes, my session seems to be gone and I have to login again.

I'm using:

Also OpenID will not work in medium trust. Maybe there should be a note or comment in the Web.config concerning this? I think Scott created a medium trust override setting for outbound server requests - but I'm having trouble finding this (and assumes that the hosting provider allows overrides either way).$0$0$0$0Webhost4Life who have previously always allowed full trust - have implemented a new feature called Security Guard - which sets the trust level of the site - and it caught my OpenID requests. However all that was required in this case was changing the security guard setting from 'strong' to 'medium' in the WH4L control panel.$0

Also - is there any chance we could include the Older Posts DrawPostPagingPrevious(), Newer Posts DrawPostPagingNext() macro options in the default dasBlog theme? I'd at least like to be able to test that this feature is working in each dasBlog release.

Will also take the daily build and try to give you some testing feedback before the weekend if I can.

Ok folks I am hearing a need to release 2.11 or do we want to call it 2.2, lots of new features along with a lot of bug fixes.

I agree that we are about ready, and I can make those simple release code updates (documents etc., but I don't really have the time for the full release testing that I think the product deserves.

So I am asking for some help.

I have been releasing daily builds all along and do some testing as I go, but the following major changes need confirmation by other than the author or I since my testing is static, not a real blog site test.

· Resolved Theme loading issue; (missing Mobile Theme crashed system for mobile browsers) [Tested OK], you can see this crash at dasBlog.info with a mobile phone...

· Added check to delete entry method: only admin or author is allowed to delete; (WLW editing allowed contributor to delete admin posts) [Not tested]

· Added OPENID identifier editbox to user edit page. And some cleanup of the sitesecurity classes; (extensive OPENID for comments support added) [Not tested]

· web.config for use in IIS7 Integrated mode; (sample file for IIS7 hosting in default Integrated mode, document in release) [Not tested]

· fixed live comment preview bug;(The last allowed tag was not working correctly in the live preview) [Tested OK]

· Adding support for themed 404 pages; (optional feature) [Not tested]

· fixed bug that caused IsDaylightSavingTime to always return false, resulting in comments always being off by one hour [Not tested]

· Added configuration page options for OPENID comments and admin, and updated site.config file; (version upgrades should take this into consideration) [Partial Test]

· Update to resolve Utils class defined twice; this also resolved the third party macro not being supported, which was unintentionally introduce in 2.1 [Tested OK for some third party macros, should work for prior working macros]

So let me know if you have implemented a daily build and have tested one of these new features or bug fixes.

If I get an adequate response I will release 2.11 or 2.2 this weekend, it’s in your hands.

Ok, I think I've got this fixed. I removed the httpHandlers and httpModules section and created the <system.webServer> <modules> .... </modules> </system.webServer> section.

I tried <system.webServer> <httpModules> .... </httpModules> </system.webServer> and that only resulted in HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Then I attempted to create the config
<system.webServer> <modules> .... </modules> </system.webServer> like this which appears to be what http://forums.iis.net/t/1150266.aspx is recomending and I get this error

See this link: http://forums.iis.net/t/1150266.aspx (validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false") apprantley this just turns off the errors, it does not stop the issue.

If your IIS7 site is setup in Integrated Mode it appears that the httpModules are not being seen in <system.web>.

While I am no expert on web.config and IIS7 I would try adding this:

Greetings,

I've got my blog up and running http://www.bkriesel.com/; but, it has some small problems. When I click on a blog entry I get a 404 error. http://www.bkriesel.com/2008/08/26/Test.aspx

Also, when logged in when I attempt to delete an entry I get a Server Error in '/' Application.

My hosting provider is WebHost4Life and I'm on IIS 7. I think the change I had to make to the webconfig to make das blog work with IIS 7 might be the cause of these problems, but I'm kind of stumped so I'm not sure how to go about looking into fixing these little problems.

I added to the webconfig

<validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" />
</system.webServer>

I don't have 2005 either, but you can develop using the 2008 solutions, just be carefull not to use any 2008 stuff (var and extension methods, all others should be blocked by compiling the projects agains 2.0)$0$0$0$0I expect the 3.x version to be 2008... since 2.1 will be the last .NET 2.0 version$0

Thanks for the response. Do you think you will move to VS 2008 with 2.2+? I ask, because I don't have 2005 on my dev box anymore. If 2.2+ will be on 2008 I will hold my patches until then (or perhaps there would be some value in a branch we could patch against now to prevent integration problems later?).
