on the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/WineForNewbies the enclosured files are redirected.

For exsample http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/WineForNewbies/~5/154224888/redirect.mp3 should be resolved to http://cdn1.libsyn.com/winefornewbies/wfn77.mp3 before creating the filename for saving the file

Similarly both the Audio and Video feeds for the kids podcast The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd create a file called 'redirect.mp4'. It appears that each download overwrites the previous and there are a number of error messages, probably from multiple threads trying to update the same file.

from rfc2616:

"The requested resource has been assigned a new permanent URI and any future references to this resource SHOULD use one of the returned URIs. Clients with link editing capabilities ought to automatically re-link references to the Request-URI to one or more of the new references returned by the server, where possible. This response is cacheable unless indicated otherwise."

I would say that it should update the Url to the new one.

If fetching a feed URL returns an HTTP 301 status code, should Doppler update itself with the new URL or continue to use the old URL? What would be your expected behavior? Does anybody know what other podcast software or feed readers do?

I think in this case the publisher of the feed has published the wrong url.
It may be that the web page has the correct url but the feed has an incorrect url.
For example the url http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/enthompson/~5/110766902/entpagels2005.mp3 gives an error when I navigate to it in a browser.
Maybe contact the publisher to get them to fix these broken urls.
If this doesn't solve the issue then we can look into it further.

I have a few feeds that don't work, though 95% of all other feeds do. I found this in both version and earlier version of Doppler. Sometimes the feeds worked at first then stopped. I don't know if it is Doppler or something else, but you can go to the web pages and see and download the mp3 files by hand. For instance:

This one worked then stopped working; no error message:

CREATED ISSUE: Feature: Provide ability for users to filter feed enclosures based on MIME content type and/or file extension

Some podcast feeds provide syndicated content in multiple formats. This can be the same content encoded in multiple formats (e.g. an audio show offered in MP3 and WMA formats) or a single feed entry with multiple content in possibly multiple formats (e.g. a podcast that offers both an audio and video version of episodes, in multiple formats).

It would be a useful if users could either filter feed content based on MIME content type and/or file extension, with possibly providing a means of downloading content to different physical directories based on the content format.

Example:
1. After adding a feed, users can indicate that they only want to download audio content.
1.1. If user indicates they only interested in audio content, they are provided with the option to only retrieve audio content that matches a specific format (MP3, WMA, etc.)
1.2. User can specify the physical path to save feed content to based on the content format. e.g. C:\Doppler\MyFeed\audio\mp3, C:\Doppler\MyFeed\audio\wma, etc.

Thanks Jonathan. I'll give all of that a try. Yeah, I felt kind of silly after posting. I should just go get the source package and build it anyway. Might be able to contribute in the future too, who knows? If I have any further problems that I can't solve myself, I'll let you know.

I just tried the installer on Vista Business 64 bit and the installation was fine. It popped up with an Allow/Cancel dialog as UAC is turned on.
I clicked allow and it installed without errors.

Maybe give more info on your system if the above workaround doesn't work.

I haven't tried this but you could give it a shot:

Create a batch file with the following command:

msiexec /i "path-to-package.msi"
Save the file then right-click it and select "Run as Administrator".

Otherwise if you're a developer you could just download the latest from the Source Code page and then run the .exe under the \trunk\Doppler\Doppler\bin\Release folder.

I was using Doppler 2 on XP. I just upgraded to Vista and tried to run Doppler 2, which as I kind of suspected, did not work. So I downloaded 3 beta, and got the same error 2869. Anything I can do to help to fix this issue (more detailed bug report, install/error logs, whatever) let me know... I really, really like Doppler and want to get it working on Vista. BTW, I'm also a hobbyist developer and I have VS 2008 installed, so I could even build and debug locally here if necessary I think.

Are you guys aware that the Doppler3Beta2 installer doesn't work on Vista w/ UAC? I searched around this site for '2869' and didn't get any hits, so I thought I'd post. I'd try the Doppler 2, but I don't want to install the old version of .Net, which the installer says is a requirement.

The Google says that the 2869 error has to do w/ you guys creating the installer w/ VS. Is that what you guys do?

Is Doppler simple enough to allow you guys to just distribute the .exe?
