Created Issue: Family sort order sorts on birth year, not on birth date

When I click on the "Birth" column header in the Family list on the right side of Family.Show, the sort order changes to that column, but as you can see on the attached image, it's not sorted on the full birth date, which gives strange results in the Age column (as you can see on the image). Could the sorting mechanism use the full birth date? Probably Death date has the exact same issue.

I really like Family.Show! It demonstrates well that complexity and simplicity can walk hand in hand.
The menu good be simplified even more, by leaving out the GedCom menu and adding the GedCom file format to the file type dropdownlist in the Open... and Save... dialog windows.
The menu option "What is GedCom?" could be left out, or moved to a help menu, but I think the power of the App is that it's so self-explanatory, that it doesn't need a Help menu.
The video-cast on the Vertigo site explains it all.

Very nice.
I find it a slightly odd design decision that the buttons and menus use a font-size that I can barely read - and it looks awkward, if not too small.
Even worse, changing my font-size settings in Display|Properties has no effect... I'm starting to worry a bit about WPF.
Is it deliberate that no WPF application seems to respect any of my OS settings?

I there! I've been poking around with Family.Show and I must say it’s a very nice example of silverlight in its best! Simple, fluid, simple… and … did I mention simple? ;) Of course you guys (the designers) have a lot to do with this, so congrats!

Now, before any technical add-on such us any sort of super-share, mega social network stuff, youtubish mambo jumbo … you name it! What I would really love to see you guys doing is to add a print facility. This is absolutely imperative if you are trying to track a family. There’s always someone that only “sees” things in paper. Even a first simple approach, some sort of a grid or a simple treeview would help a lot.

So, there’s my suggestion… you ask for it… you got it!

I really like family.show. I have started making my own family tree and it's a really easy program to use.

Here's my wish list for v3:

A Grand Family Tree view - when you see every body in the family tree at once.
Nicknames - some have more then one name :)
Having more then birth / death location - for example born at location A, moved and lived at location B ...(etc) died at location C
A map - shows where every thing from #3 happened on a map (with all the family member or just selected members) (maybe show where person A met B, and then when they got married?...)
Profession and where the job was... so many possibilities with maps (college/university and stuff like that.)

That's it for now.

I had some great great grandparent uncles and aunts who have passed away but I do not have there date of death.

I have seen the similar thing where they are shown with the flag of living but I guess I might have to place atleast just a year of death in them I guess...

I will like to take my computer to FedEx Kinkos and get the chart printed in full version in a very very large wall size paper for all the family members to see.

Would it be possible to expose the GUI using Silverlight? I am new to Silverlight but understand the Silverlight and WPF share the same core?

I have looked thru the discussions and there seems the same questions asked a few different times.

Is a web-version of this project in the road map. This app is great, but with a web version that would allow family members to collaborate online, it would be incredible. I have searched for hours for an open source or third party .Net web based family tree solution to no avail. It seems like this project in Silverlight would be the perfect fit.

From Brother keeper i have imported GEDCOM in Family Show. This cause some relationships breaks and now i am unable to link these relationships with forefathers. They exists in the database like another separate family and there is no option in family show except to delete them and make them add lateron.

CREATED ISSUE: system hangs processor

I have updated my family tree up to 94 people and the system will just hang, using my processor but taking 30 seconds to a minute to move onto the next action. Typing entries is almost impossibly slow. The Windsor file still opens up fine. What issues could exist that would cause the program to hang?

I showed this to my wife today (as she has been doing her genealogy for years now and currently uses FTM2005) and whilst impressed at the lovely diagram view the first question she asked was: can you print that out for me?

So - it would seem that printing is a 'must have' for a genealogist, so I'll second that call for additional functionality.

I just started using Family.Show by loading a GED file from Ancestral Quest. The file is large - about 48,000 lines. Person 1 (me) is displayed at "Living", no name, birthday, marriage day, ... It clearly shows that I have 2 sons and 1 daughter (boy and girl symbols), but their names are "Living" too. In fact, many, many entries are listed as "Living". On the other hand, my ancestors and many of their children are correctly listed.

I'm guessing this has something to do with either:

my large GED file, or
the format of the file from Ancestral Quest.

Anyone else having this problem?

I installed your software, and everything works fine except the date of the relationships (as you can see in the image).
Is there any font that is necessary to install? Why do I have this issue?

Thats because the program uses the fot Calibri that came with Office 2007, you have two options: install that font or change the xaml resource file in FamilyShow project / Skins / (Black or Silver), look for the node wich key "ConnectionTextFont"

COMMENTED ISSUE: App crashes when clicked on Photo & Stories

When opening up the Windsor.family file and selecting Prince Charles then click on Photos & Stories the app crashes. The same thing will occur with various people. I've been able to reproduce on 2 different machines.
