About Me
My name is Jayson Go. I live in the beautiful state of Colorado, USA. However, I was originally born in the Philippines, in Cebu City...where I lived until I was 12 years old. Since then, I moved to Colorado and have lived here ever since.

I am a Software Developer for a Fortune 7 company, and have been developing with Microsoft products for the last 7+ years. I am certified with the following Microsoft certifications: MCP, MCAD, MCSD .NET/VS6. My experience varies from COM development with C++ and VB6, database development with SQL Server 2000/2005/Compact, .NET development with versions 1.x, 2.0 and 3.x in C#, and web development with Web Services and ASP.NET 1/2. I tend to be an early adopter, which is why if you're trying out Game Oracle, you're downloading the latest in the .NET Framework (I could've bootstrapped the SQLce 3.5, too, but I decided to be nice and just include it the installation :)).

I am also a gamer. I go by name of Stektr33. If you're curious what the name Stektr33 means, that makes both of us :) (actually it's a long story). Although I don't play as much anymore, my heart still belongs in emersing myself in a good game and playing with all of my clanmates and friends. I started out with RTCW Demo, forming a silly clan called Sten Club before being asbsorbed into a clan called xGooNx. Eventually, I made my way into playing for TeamBallz where I made very good friends. I went to QuakeCon with a few of them a couple times. I'm now playing with just Stek tag, although, it's not really a tag since it's a part of my name. Anyways, other clans that have I have run across over the years were: 502nd, Dead Penguins, etc.

My Motiviation
Game Oracle is a dream of mine. Around the time that .NET 1.0 (mabye 6+ years ago) was first coming out in a beta, I dreamt of a Server Browser that was customizable and easy to use. I didn't know what I was really getting into. Throughout the years, I have probably written 8 versions of Game Oracle, but never publicly released any one of them. I was either never pleased with the way I wrote certain things, or in some cases, the .NET Framework evolved to newer versions with much cooler functionality that I had to take advantage of. My girlfriend and some of my friends even tease me of how I always talk about it, but I have never finished it. Well, this is it. Being both a gamer and developer has its perks; it allows you to see what the gaming sector 'needs' and then, develop for it. For me, I saw a need, or better yet, a good market, for an extensibile application for all gamers. ASE is dead. XFire has too many ads. So, whether it's needing a powerful server browser, or a communication tool, or an admin tool, I wanted to both create a platform and the actual components to provide those needs. I am motivated by the fact that if I develop a solid enough application and platform, that the developers will come... and if the developers come, then the features will come... if the features come, then the gamers will come. If the gamers come, a community will be made. I guess I could be totally wrong, and for all I know, I could have it all backwards, but I do know one thing, if none of this really works out, that I still had fun doing all of it.

If you see me on our virtual battlefield, come say Hi!
Project Description
Game Oracle is an extensible host application designed for PC gamers. It provides an environment for custom extensions that give gamers the features they need and want. Out of the box, Game Oracle provides a Server Browser extension that allows gamers to browse and manage their games and servers. The powerful and customizable View system provides an easy way to see and filter your servers.
Because Game Oracle is an open-source project, I hope that it will find other developers that will help it mature into a solid application with the latest features that gamers look for.

Screenshots
Visit the Screenshots page to view the latest screenshots.

If You Are...
If you are a user, and would like to know more of Game Oracle's features, visit the Features page.
If you are a developer, and would like to know more about the technology behind Game Oracle, visit the Technology page.
If you are neither, but would like to know more about me and my background, and my inspiration behind Game Oracle, visit the About Me page.

Installation
Click on the Release link at the top and find the latest build. This application uses the latest in Microsoft technologies. The .NET Framework 3.5 is required to run it. If you do not have it installed, as most of you won't, the Game Oracle installation will download and install it for you (just make sure you run boostrapper (setup.exe) and the not the packaged installation (.msi) file).
Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista x86

Thank You...
...for your interest and I hope you will give Game Oracle a try!

Overview
Game Oracle is a managed application that runs on the .NET 3.5 Framework and is written in C# and the new Visual Studio 2008 (Beta 2) system.
It uses LINQ (to Objects), LINQ to XML, SQL Server Compact 3.5, Extensions and other hot new technologies.
It is developed with as much Object Oriented design, as possible, and an MVC design pattern to control the data.

Architecture
Besides adhering to OO design concepts and implementing the MVC pattern, the other architectural aspect of this project to note is its extensibility model. Extensions, other times referred as plug-ins, enhances the application by allowing developers to write new extensions that provide other features. The only requirement for the extension is to implement the given interface. With Game Oracle, you can extend the following:

Application Host - By implementing the IApplicationHost interface, usually using a Windows Form, you can dramatically change everything about the application. The reason this extension exists is for future purposes, maybe in the event that a WPF form might be wanted, or simply a change in which form loads up. For now, this will not change.

Tab Extension - By implementing the ITabContentProvider interface, you can create new tabs that will be displayed on the main screen. The tab can be anything you want. An example of a Tab Extension is the Server Browser. Another one I'm currently writing is the Community and Admin tabs.

Controller - By deriving from the Controller abstract class, you will be able to interact with the DataProvider, which has access to the underlying SQLce database. When creating a tab extension, I would recommend pairing your tab with a controller, and allow the controller to do all the "data" related operations.

Game Extension - By deriving from the Game abstract class, you will be able to provide support for the game and allow Game Oracle to load and interact with it. This will probably be the most common extension that will be continually added to the application to provide support to more and more games.

Protocol Extension - By deriving from the Protocol abstract class, you will be able to define a set of logic used to retrieve and parse server data. This protocol class is useful for games that use the same engine. For example, RTCW and WolfET both use the Quake3 engine, so if a Game extension was created for both, they should use the same protocol.

There will be more support for other extensions as the application matures and it calls for more extensibility.
You should be able to add/remove servers and get server lists for ETQW. You should also be able to set account names and server passwords and join servers.

The list of features that I have listed under Issue Tracker are also +not an accurate+ list of features supported by this release, and in fact, there are many more features than what's listed.

Thank you for trying Game Oracle.
