We did finally get it working. From what I recall, we didn't get the Feature files copied to the App server. I copied them out to the App server, and then I was able to activate it.

Can you clarify that limitation? Is it documented?

I thought that any drive designation works, be it local or a network share.

That said, I, too, am having issues getting it to work via a network share. We had it working find via D:\localFolder but when I switched it in the config site to \\sharedFolder, it still wants to save the files in the first local folder for some reason.

When we installed the solution, we originally set it up to save .bak files to the D: drive.

This mean site deletes were going into one of the D drives on one of our front-end servers. Given that we had multiple front-end servers, this was impractical.

So I went into the AppConfig list on the CaptureConfiguration site, modified the 'networkshare' to point at a shared folder on our network \\backupserver\sharepointdeletecapture\ and then saved it.

I then created a new site and deleted it, but it's still saving the .bak files in the D drive.

Now, when I modfied the AppConfig entry, I also changes the 'NotificationMailFrom' field. When I got the email from the site delete, THAT was correct, so it appears that it knows the list was updated, but for some reason, it's not grabbing the new networkshare variable. Thoughts?

There are limitation that the backup folder has to be created in a logical drive whether a local or SAN attached, and the you have to create individual backup folder with same name on each WFE servers and it make things hard to track. Has anyone encountered this issue? Can you share your solution?

Hi all,

I installed and tested the IT Site Deletion Capture utility on our development server - I have found it to be very useful.

However, I found that when it comes to either backing up / restoring or importing / exporting sites to different servers, it will not allow us to do this - it complains that it cannot find the Site Deletion Capture feature. With this in mind, we had to remove it from our development server, as we were not ready to deploy this to either of the other Sharepoint servers in our farm. We have found that it cannot be deleted / removed - it complains that it cannot load the feature when doing an import or restore, but can backup or export OK. We have tried a number of different ways to remove it, including checking in Central Admin, but it is still present, and giving us a lot of grief!

Has anyone had any need to remove it, and if so, have you managed to do so OK, and have any tips?

Hi my friends!

I'm facing the following problem:

I created a new Site and uploaded some images to it. After I created a Page and added some contents to it.
When I deleted the Site, everything seems to works fine... It creates a bkp file to me... and when I run the import stsadm command it says that the system recovered the backup file succesfully.

But when I go to my site collection and I open the content folders, nothing is inside them!

Please, help me!!

At a recent usergroup meeting, the site delete feature came up. We've installed it on our own MOSS farm, and it seems to work. Other's felt it was a necessary install as well. HOWEVER, several folks mentioned that there are a lot of caveats to it. We didn't get to go into much detail, but from what I understood, there's a couple of issues:

1) Any new site template added AFTER site delete was installed will not have the site delete feature in it.
2) Some templates just don't work with it.

Are the above 2 items correct statements? Are there any other major caveats we should know about?

Does the install of Microsoft IT Site Delete Capture LE 1.0 require you have the older feature (Microsoft IT Site Delete Capture 1.0) intalled as well?
The instructions for LE 1.0 do not mention this. After running the "MSIT Site Delete Capture.BAT" I try to activate the feature and get-

The bat file executes several commands without pause.

I used the bat file as an example and ran each command seperately.

This feature works in our implementation as long as the top level site down is less than 8 gig.
We have tested with 100meg, 1gig through 6gig but anything over 8gig stops with the following log entry:

Is the entire purupose of the 'captureConfiguration' site/collection that gets created to host the 'appconfig' list with the one 'appconfig' record?

It seems overkill just for that, so makes me wonder if I'm missing something...is that site supposed to do more than just that?

The install instructions for the Site Deletion Capture state to assign a network share for the backup files. Then, in the example, it actually uses a local file on the D: drive.

We did the latter, and set up a folder on each of our two FE servers and the App server.

The capture seems to be working, but it's only storing the backup files in our first FE server. This is fine, but just wondering if this is an OK setup, or if we really shoudl be using a network share so it always saves in the same folder. I assume as it is now, we might get different files stored in each FE server.

'doh! User error.

Turns out we didn't get the Feature files copied to the App server. Once I did that, we were back in business.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I am getting the same error.

I thought it was beacause I put the messages.xml file into the 12\TEMPLATE\1033\XML folder, and not up one level in the 12\TEMPLATE\1033 like the instructions said. I copied the xml file to the 1033 folder, uninstalled the feature, reset iis, installed the feature, and still get the same error.

please help if you know.
