Commented Issue: Connect to the local online store failed.

Thanks to the GE team for such a nice tool. I am trying to implement my own online store for our entire team.

Here is what I have done:
1. I have set up the online store along with the SQL database.
2. I have set up the GE online for the readers of the library.

These are working fine.

Now I am trying to use the GE off line tool to connect to this Online Store so that I can add more libraries and publish it back to the local online store.

I am not being able to connect to the local online store from the off line explorer.

Please HELP ME.

I think activity in this area is too little. Hope I could have got some response.

However there is a good news that I finally could connect from the smart client to my local store and also successfully published my own library.

But the bad news is that the online client is showing an entirely different set of guidance items. Can somebody help me? I updated the following entries in the web.config for the online client:

      <setting name="GuidanceExplorer_OnlineGuidance_OnlineStorage" serializeAs="String">

CREATED ISSUE: Access denied when subscribing to a file says "The library file is invalid"

I have exported the library to a network share. When other users want to subscribe to the library then they got the message "The library file is invalid".

After analyzing, I've found out that they were not authorized to the file and directory. It would be nicer to see a Access denied error message.

I've added several new attributes to new guidance types, and would like to remove the columns for the old ones. I see how to do it every time I start up GE, but I'd like my settings in the field chooser to persist. Is there a way to do that?

I understand the desire to auto-size images, however it would be very nice if there were an option for the images to retain their original size once inserted into an item. E.G. I am entering some How-To's with screen captures. After I drop in an image, I can see and grab the pick handles of the object. The cursor changes to indicate resizing is possible, but nothing happens.

Guidance Explorer - The Guidance Explorer smart client allows browsing local or remote libraries from a winforms thick client application. Remote libraries are automatically synchronized with a local cache to allow publish/subscribe scenarios. The Guidance Explorer smart client has full capabilities for creating and editing guidance as well as guidance types.
Online Guidance Store - The online store provides a mechanism for publishing to, and sharing from, a guidance library on the web. It is a web service interface backed by a SQL 2005 database. When Guidance Explorer is connected to the online store all clients automatically stay in sync with add/remove/modify of guidance in the library.
Guidance Explorer Web Edition - The Guidance Explorer online application allows a user to browse guidance from the online store. The online application does not allow for the creation or modification of guidance. Unlike the smart client it is a read-only view on guidance.
Guidance Explorer Authoring Toolkit - The Authoring Toolkit is a stripped down version of Guidance Explorer that does not come with a guidance library and includes just the basic guidance types. The Authoring Toolkit is designed for guidance authors who want to use Guidance Explorer to create and/or distribute their own guidance. It has the following capabilities:

You can customize the application title to match your team or organization
You can add/remove/edit guidance types
You have full access to all of the Guidance Explorer features, except for connection to an online store.

Once you've customized guidance types you can distribute to your team for guidance browsing, authoring or modification.

NEW POST: Unification of GE, FxCop, and Framework Design Guidelines

It would be great if the Guidance Toolkit/Explorer, FxCop, and the Framework Design Guidelines were unified in both Content as well as a Tool. In other words, the Guidance Packages should mirror the Framework Design Guidelines (plus any custom Rules/Patterns one has added) and FxCop should be the Tool used to analyze the implementation of the Guidelines and Packages. The concept of the 3 serves the same fundamental purpose - to design and implement better software. Something so important shouldn't be so cumbersome and time consuming to use 3 different resources.
