Regarding your questions:

1.When I set up an install of DNN 4.8.2 (using the install version) and set the Target Framework to .Net 3.5 (in the PropertyPages->Build of VS 2008), and answered yes to the question about converting the project to .Net 3.5, one of several automatic changes that were made to web.config included in the <runtime > node the bindingRedirect statements you indicated. I had not tried installing the ImageEditor Control (Demo DNN Module) in this .Net 3.5 framework site until tonight. While the install went well, I ran into a similar problem in that after I opened or uploaded an image file then clicked on one of the image enhancement/flip buttons or finalized a crop, the following message was displayed:

Runtime Error
Line: 163
Error: '__pendingCallbacks[i].async' is null or not an object

After clicking "No" to debugging, the selected command was correctly performed. Further clicks of the image enhancement/flip buttons for further cropping then worked correctly.

The runtime error is occuring in code internal to the MS AJAX Javascript framework 3.5 so I'll need to set up my debugging environment to be able to step through my own Javascript and into this function to see why it blows up in 3.5 but not in 1.0 MS AJAX and why it only happens on the first click.

2. You mentioned "in order to make ImageEditor work properly, I must comment that lines." Were you referring to commenting out the <runtime > node with the bindingRedirects?

Have you looked into this feature for DNN 5? There suppose to release new Social Networking features that are going to be built in to the core profile property editor later in the future. DNN 5 won't have those features yet but they're working on it they said. They were promising alot more features in DNN 5 but we won't see any of them until later down the road. I'm working on testing a basic .net image upload control that displays a thumbnail preview and limits the file size and file type. My website is http://www.graphicsphere.net/ or you can download the zip file once the control is ready here http://www.graphicsphere.net/imageuploadcontrol.zip.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting this, however the download link seems to be broken... can you double check?

Thanks again.
This is short description of my problem with ImageEditor control:
In Page_Load event handler, i set some ImageEditorControl properties to fit my needs. Here's the code:

With

ImageEditControl1
.EditMode = DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.PropertyEditorMode.Edit
.ShowFolders = True
.ShowFiles = True
.AllowFileUpload = False
.AllowFileOpen = False
.AllowFileSaveAs = False
.AutoThumbnail = False
.FilePath = GetImageFilePath()
End With

When page load, ImageEditorControl loads my image. Then click any control in toolbox and then ImageControl stuck. All I see is progres bar in endless loop.
I Also defined assembly version redirection with following lines in my web.config file:

Thanks for the quick response. I got pulled onto another project, so I hadn't had a chance to look more into your control. Now that I've delved into it more, it's so simple! Thank you for such a great control. Setting the image, saving, and aspect ratio-based cropping work great (which are the most important things to me), but I'm having some problems with the rest of the features (flipping, rotating, etc). For some reason, the first time they work fine, then they won't work again. For example, the vertical flip makes the picture upside-down, but clicking it again doesn't make it right side up. Oddly enough, though, clicking the horizontal flip when it's upside-down will cause it to show up right side up, but won't flip it horizontally. I'm beginning to think it's an issue with me using .NET 3.5. Does your control support the new version of the AJAX framework or do you know what else could be causing this? Thanks.
Keith,

I have not tried it in .NET 3.5 but can't think of any reason that it would not work. This sounds more like a cacheing issue. Are you using the file or in memory cache for temporary storage of the preview image? - that would be the CachePersistence property which defaults to memory. Is your .aspx page using and page cacheing? If you can bring the ImageEditor source into your development environment and recompile it for debugging, it would be interesting to know if a breakpoint set in the RaiseCallbackEvent method is getting hit each time a button is clicked. If you would like to e-mail me your .aspx page source (both .aspx and .aspx.vb or .aspx.cs) simplified as much as possible to still demonstrate the problem but without extra functions, I'd be glad to take a look at it. The ImageEditorControl and the demo module have no connection to the HTML/Text module nor to other DNN core modules. Therefore it is not possible to have the 'edit pencil' appear beside any image other than the one currently show in the demo module. My hope is that other developers will be able to use the ImageEditorControl in their module development when looking for an image upload and ediitng control. It would be great to have this capability in the core HTML/Text module which uses the FCKEditor but this would take extensive reworking of the FCKEditor provider - something that I'll leave to those more familiar with the provider and its image handling.

Bill
William,

Really nice work.

I have installed it on my portal and have played with it a bit. However I cannot get the 'edit pencil' to appear beside an image I instered in a HTML/Text module on a page (a page that I have also installed the full "Image Editro" module on). I stress though that I do not use Solpart menu on my site (i am using the Housemeu skin object which provides javascript free navigation menus).

I have two questions:

What do I need to do to see the 'edit pencil' or is it simply not possible without Solpart? I confirm that i am running DNN v4.6.2.

How do I (or can I?) set it up so that images on any page can be edited 'in place'? Must the full module be installed on the page in question for that to be possible?

Any advice would be much appreicated.

Thanks again for sharing this valuable tool with the DNN community.

eoghano
Richard,

I intentionally developed this as two separate controls. The first (ImageEditor) is an Asp.Net 2.0 + MS AJAX 1.1 script control. Along with the DynamicImage HttpHandler, it provides the basic editor functions including dynamic preview, cropping, flip/rotate, and brightness/contrast/saturation adjustments. Although it provides "hooks" in the form of properties and exposed events to facilitate uploading, opening, and saving image files, it does not do any file handling itself. The DNN demo module uses this control as its base and provides very simplistic DNN aware file handling. This control could be used directly in a .NET application but you will have to add the upload and file handling methods. On the other hand, the ImageEditorControl builds upon the ImageEditor to provide more comprehensive DNN aware file capabilities. I would suggest you take a look at both the Demo module and the ImageEditorControl source code to see how I added file handling to the base ImageEditor.

Bill

Hi Antonio,

That's also one of the things I want to do next. I looked very briefily at the PropertyEditor datatype controls but didn't see how attributes of the underlying controls were being set which is important to the image editor as there are so many available options. Otherwise, it should not be hard to wrap either the basic image editor or the DNN image editor control within a custom datatype editor inheriting from the base EditControl and providing overrides of its MustOverride properties. When I have a chance I want to get back to working on that - unless some one that is more familiar with the DNN PropertyEditor classes and beats me to it!

Bill
