Project Description
This feature allows site collection administrators to view all the columns of a list including hidden/read-only ones and gives column details such as the internal name, Guid, Type..

The feature also shows the CAML of the views attached to the given list and the event handlers associated to it.

On top of that, the features allows the site collection admin to switch the column state (from read-only to writeable, show in display form/not show, show in edit form/not show, show in newform/not show). These actions are not handled by the standard Sharepoint UIs.

To avoid unexpected mistakes, the operations described above are only available for custom columns (not hidden nor system columns)

After having activated the feature, you've got one extra link in the list's general settings

This link redirects you to a page where you can view/manage the list columns with contextual actions (changing according to the column status)

It also lists the views and events linked to the list

Hi,

Indeed, I forgot to include that picture in the package, in fact, this is a standard SharePoint picture, the only difference is that I stored it in the folder ListManager and that's what I forgot to package...I'll do it as soon as I have a bit of time.

I like the tool. It installed easily. However, in the rendering of the page, you reference an image file (/_layouts/images/ListManager/minus.gif) several times. You do not seem to have this file in your source either. Perhaps you could fix this in your package.

i have encountered the following cases which i attached as screen shots after installing and activating it.

Hi,

Yes I'm aware of it. I forgot to embed the pictures in the solution...and I've not found the time yet to do so. Actually I'm using the standard SharePoint pictures "plus.gif" and "minus.gif", so if you want a kind of "hot fix", you could just create a folder named "ListManager" within the LAYOUTS/IMAGES folder and copy those pictures.

I'll try to re-upload the solution ASAP :)

Hi,

Yes indeed. As described in the component description, the feature only supports changes on custom columns. This is to avoid to interfeer with OOB columns and to avoid unwanted mistakes.

Sorry about the previous post. I went back to the manage columns link and DO see the menu on some of the columns. I guess this feature does not work on all columns. Thanks, this is great being able to look at all column properties.

Hi,

I activated the feature using stsadm and now see the "Manage Columns" link in the list settings. I open that and see the columns but the menu does not open as in your print screen.

Hi,

No you didn't. Well, as you're the first person to report a problem, I guess that the solution is not the root cause :).

I guess that the solution hasn't been deployed successfully for some reasons. You should check that in the solution store. The fact that you don't see the feature at site collection level means that the feature wasn't installed;

You can check if you find the feature within the FEATURES folder of the 12 hive. If you don't find it, it means that the solution wasn't installed/deployed successsfully. If you see it, just try to run stsadm -o installfeature ....and you'll see.

I downloaded the ColumnManager.wsp to my web server, added the solution and then deployed it. However I do not see the List Manager Feature at the site collection level. Did I miss something?

- Download the attached file
- on the Sharepoint Server, open a DOS prompt and type the following:

stsadm -o addsolution -filename ColumnManager.wsp
stsadm -o deploysolution -name ColumnManager.wsp -url <your server> -allowgacdeployment -local

- Go to the site collection features of any site collection and activate the feature labelled List Manager
- Go to the list settings of any list and click on Manage Columns.
