Sorry for the delay in responding. I wanted to experiment with this a bit first.

The first method, using two Rules, caused the browser to endlessly loop until I modified the "From" Attribute of the "RuleORG" Rule removing the string "(www.)?". Then it worked GREAT!

Example:

        action="redirect"
        ignoreCase="true"
        redirectType="permanent"
        transformType="RegExReplace"
        fromScope="absolute"
        from="^http(?<SSL>[s]?)://mydomain.org/(?<WebPage>(.*))$"
        to="http${SSL}://www.mydomain.org/${WebPage}" />

The second method, with one rule, failed in the same way but the same modification won't fix it completely so you would still need two rules.

Doing it in one rule would be nice, but not at all necessary.

So....please clarify.   You want to permanently redirect http://www.MyDomain.org, http://MyDomain.org, http://www.MyDomain.com and http://MyDomain.com to http://www.MyDomain.org ?

If the above understanding is correct ....then the following should work...

The above two rules will work. These can actually be combined into one....but I did not have enough time to look up how to test for either or ".com" or ".org".   Even I get a headache using regular expressions sometimes.

I would like to use nUrlRewriter to do the following with a DNN site and need some examples.

I have two domain names (MyDomain.com and MyDomain.org) that I want to point to the same site. I setup DNS and IIS so that a visitor can navigate to the site using any of the following four URLs:

http://www.MyDomain.org
http://MyDomain.org
http://www.MyDomain.com
http://MyDomain.com

I want the visitor to be permanently redirected to http://www.MyDomain.org

Could someone with some experience please provide me with an example.

Look in the nUrlRewriter project folder under the Sample Configurations folder and then under the Integrated Pipeline subfolder. You will see a web.config file which illustrates defining nUrlRewriter for IIS7. IIS7 is a prerequisite for being able to redirect/ rewrite PHP apps. For this web.config you will need to add the appropriate topLevelExtensions to the nUrlRewriter configuration. Adding the PHP extension is illustrated in the documentation under Advanced Installation / topLevelExtensions. Just add the PHP extension and you are good to go.

One of the great things about nUrlRewriter is the trace facility....which is good to use while validating/ testing the various redirect/ rewrites that you want to conduct. Many people also claim to get headaches whenever they have to use regular expressions...however the trace facility helps you easily validate your regular expressions before going live.

Hi. I've gone through the documentation and have found it a bit difficult to go through the process of setting the whole thing up. I'm new here and would appreciate if you could provide some information on how to set up a basic php application and enable rewriting of all URLs. Cheers!

Generally it does not slow down site load time, if the redirects/rewrites are well thought out.

Due to the inherit architecture of redirects, a redirect will incur more overhead than a rewrite, simply because of the time required to go to the browser and back. However, many redirects are required because of retired or archived web pages, in which case a redirect is much more preferable than having the user receive a Http status code 404. There is a section in the nUrlRewriter documentation on how redirects versus rewrites work.

With respect to DNN 3rd party module conflicts, I am not aware of any, and a number of my other Http Modules work well in a DNN environment. Of course you would not want two redirect Http Modules in your DNN configuration, so simply remove any DNN supplied redirect module and replace with nUrlRewriter.

All you need to do is to declare the web.config nUrlRewriter specific configuration section, then define the web.config nUrlRewriter specific configuration section (either in the web.config or referenced in an external config file via the configSource attribute)....and then define nUrlRewriter in the list of many DNN Http Modules. nUrlRewriter Version 2.0.0.2 fixes a few minor items in the initial Version 2.0...

* Trace file name should properly named as nUrlRewriterTrace.txt. rather than URLRedirect.txt.
* A few mistakes were made in some of the sample configuration files.

Yes...IIS5 and IIS6 is fully supported. You simply will be unable to take advantage of the IIS7 Integrated ASP.NET Pipeline specific features....such as supporting PHP, HTM and classic ASP web applications. I have been using nUrlRewriter with IIS6 for at least one year now.
