I solved my problem. It seems the Project didn't store the WorkitemType well. When I repoened the project to check this, they were empty. So I reentered them and now I am able to enter associations´,

I have a similar problem. Installation went fine and I can create a association for projects. But it seems not to associate items. If I try to do thi manualle I have a empty and disabled Task DDL (By Workitem) or a empty and disabled WorkItem DDL (By Assignment).

I get no errors in the event log.

I created new project association with no options for task linking set. Association between projects looks ok, lock is not applied. When I try to add assignment association, I get empty drop down list for tasks. But I can see some project server assignments in hierarchy view.

There's no errors or warnings in event log, just a few Enterprise Library Logging infos and Office SharePoint Server infos. Two recurring infos contain the following:

1) Provisioning database SP-SV.ProjectServer_Reporting MUI files for Reporting database type for 1060 lcid.

2) Failed to provision database SP-SV.ProjectServer_Reporting MUI files for Reporting database type for 1060 lcid directory D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Sql\Project Server\Core\ or D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Sql\Project Server\Core\1060 don't exist.

I have some problems with project associations. I can create project association trough Connector web site, but it remains locked. In event viewer I get two errors (attached). It looks like assembly 'Microsoft.Vsts.Ranger.Connector.PS2007Providers' is missing, but Connector web service works, at least unlocking the project and listing projects work ok from browser. Assembly is present in web services bin folder.

If I manualy unlock project association, and then try to create new assignment association trough Connector web site, I can see work items (in WorkItem drop down), but no tasks. It appears that something is wrong with Project Server connection, because I cannot see any tasks from project. How can I check out if project connection is setup properly?

Our Software Development team has TFS (2005) installed on 2 Itanium servers, with one housing the Data tier and the other housing the Application tier. We are about to install the TFS Connector on our Project Server 2007 server and are unclear as to which TFS server the TFS Connector should be installed on. Does it install on the Data tier or the Application Tier?

the quickest way to fix it would be to either rename the processTemplates in the web.config by adding giving it the 'PS' template names or just copying the config for the two existing processtemplates and renaming them with the 'PS' names. The process templates are pretty similar save an extra SyncState field in the PS ones (and this field is not represented in the mapping configuration anyway)

Yes, I used the tool you created and updated the templateNames, I even successfully got old TFS Projects to synch. After looking in the web.config, it only shows 'MSF for Agile Software Development - v4.2' and 'MSF for CMMI Process Improvement - v4.2'. The 'PS' templates are missing which are giving me the error. Is there a way to add these other templates to the connector service or should I just create projects in TFS the old way and use your tool to update the templateName?

lfenster, I'm getting the same thing. I have tried updating the templateName for TFS projects that already exist, as well as created new TFS projects with the 'MSF Agile For PS Connector -v4.2' template and I'm still seeing errors in the EventLog implying that it still can't locate the process template.

There are really just two things the Connector install does for the TFS portion:

create two process templates
set up a subscription to the Connector Web Service for the WorkItemChangedEvent

Can you check to see if any of these have been successfully installed/configured?

Also, check out http://www.agilior.pt/blogs/tiago.pascoal/archive/2008/03/28/4096.aspx to see if it may be the same issue.

Actually, if you have the siteGuid or SSPUrl wrong, you'd get the symptom you are faced with. The Connector does a check to see if it has to impersonate -- when tasks are assigned to TFSService, it does not. Thus, only impersonated tasks are failing. My guess is that one of these config settings are still incorrect.

Hi Lenny,

Thanks for your response. I reinstalled the various components and I was able to have some success, but I'm not sure it's related to the re-install. Here's my current state.

Task Synchronization works as expected but only with tasks assigned to the TFSService account. If the task is assigned to anyone else, I get the failure I mentored above. I'm going to review what permissions the other accounts I'm working with, but I'm pretty sure that I gave all of the team members pretty liberal permissions (well beyond what I'd assign if this was a production environment).

If I had the siteGuid or SSPUrl configured incorrectly, would I still be able to get success when the task is assigned to the TFSService account (which, BTW is also the connector service account).

Any updates to a resource's assignments must be done as that user when leveraging Project Server's Statusing API (the API that allows EPMs to accept/reject task updates and creations). As such, the Connector must impersonate the resource before making an update. If the siteGuid or SSPUrl are configured incorrectly you will get the error message you are seeing. Please look at the FAQ where I outlined the steps to identify the siteGuid and SSPUrl and update the configuration for the Connector.

I'm struggling with basic functionality of the connector.

I'm running a single server configuration with TFS 2008 on Windows 2003.

I'm able to create tasks in Project server and automatically synchronize them with TFS, but if I update one of the project fields in TFS (Remaining work and/or completed work) and then Approve the change to send the data for the the work item to Project Server, it fails and I get the following error in the event log (sorry for the text dump)...

and I've discovered that the Id mentioned above belongs to the user that has the task assigned to them. That strikes me as strange. Why would the system impersonate the user who the task is assigned to when updating an assignment.

I was getting a "The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators." message in the body of the web page returned from the Statusing API call, but I was able to get beyond that by removing all of the extension restrictions in SharePoint.

I've gone through all of the steps in the setup guide when attempting to resolve permission issues (401s). I'm able to successfully run the web service calls under my service account (TFSService).

I'm out of tricks...

UPDATED RELEASE: Connector Release 2.0 (Mar 10, 2008)

This release of the PS2007 VSTS Connector is targeted to work with Team Foundation Server 2008 and resolves several bugs that were reported in the first two releases. We've done our best to ensure that this Connector is easy to install and well documented, but if you encounter issues, please be sure to let us know via email at tfpstalk@microsoft.com, we'll do our best to get you up and running.

Three *important* notes:
# If Connector installtion fails immediately, it may be due to the fact that the VC++ 9.0 runtime assemblies have not been installed on the machine. This issue was found late in testing; however we did not want to further delay getting the Connector to you. It is only needed for installation and is not needed for the Connector to run. We will be removing this dependency in a minor release (coming soon). For now, you must run the vcredist_x86.exe that is included with the Connector installation file if you run into this issue.
# A change that was made to a TFS 2008 API such that the process template information is no longer maintained with a team project. However, the Connector depends on this information to determine how to map fields within a team project to fields wthin a PS project. Please see [url:http://blogs.msdn.com/lfenster/archive/2008/02/14/getting-a-process-template-for-a-team-project-in-tfs-2008.aspx] for a full description of the change and a tool to ensure that your team projects have the necessary information for the Connector to work effectively.
# Tiago Pascoal has uncovered a few 'gotchas' about having to have Team Explorer 2008 installed to complete the installation for the additional process templates and TFS subscription (the TFS part of the install). usually folks cannot create the databases if they have not been granted appropriate permissions. THe scripts should be in your WINDOWS\PS2007-TFS Connector directory. You may need to hand these to a DBA to install for you.
