..and you have to remove 2 http modules from web.config that are TFS web access specific (its actually 2 <remove tags that are not needed).

I always enjoy hearing about other people using the dashboard, especially when they like it :-)

You can run it on another server (as long as the server has Team Explorer installed, and .NET of course), but you will not get that automatic refresh when you close a work item opened in TFS Web Access. The reason is that I havent found a way to get notified when a window closes opened to another site. I havent actually tried it on a separate server but it works fine when I run it locally from Visual Studio on my machine.

Just change tfsWebAccessRelative in web.config to http://tfsserver:8090/ instead of the default.

Hi,

I just love the dashboard. Period! This may seem like a stupid question, but I wonder if it is possible to install it on a separate server than the TFS server? If this is possible, than it would take a lot less of corporate politics to get this one installed.

I should have posted earlier that I did that right after sending the message, but it didn't solve the 403 error.

Project Description
Scrum Dashboard is a web front-end for Conchangos Scrum for Team System version 2. The main goal of this project is to replace the whiteboard and simplify daily work with Scrum artifacts in Team Foundation Server 2008.

Architectural notes
Scrum Dashboard is a ASP.NET 2.0 application developed using Visual Studio 2008. Technologies used are ASP.NET 3.5 Ajax, Ajax Toolkit 3.5, WCF web services for callbacks, SQL Server as backend. All Scrum data is stored in Team Foundation Server 2008 using the Scrum for Team System version 2 templates and accessed using the TFS web service API. A supporting database is used to store history for the RSS feed, but the goal is to never store anything critical in this database. For better performance a per-project cache is used which is automatically flushed whenever a change is made to that project in TFS. Scrum Dashboard should be able to connect to any project using the official Scrum for Team System version 2 templates without any modification to TFS. All changes to TFS are made by impersonating the currently logged in user to make sure security and other restrictions defined in TFS applies.

Contact the cordinator if you wish to contribute to this project, all help is very welcome. The easiest way to contribute is that you download the latest code, make your changes, and upload a patch under the Source Code tab.

Background
Scrum Dashboard was developed by EPiServer as a small tool to simplify the transition to Scrum and Team Foundation Server. Since the start more and more features has been added, all driven by the needs and suggestions of the Scrum teams. Scrum Dashboard is currently used on a daily basis by all the Scrum teams at EPiServer. EPiServer AB is a privately owned Swedish product company, founded in 1994 and is the leading company in Content Management and portal solutions through the platform EPiServer CMS.

Prerequisite

Step by step

Note! Replace any references to localhost with the name of your server.

Unzip the downloaded package to c:\inetpub\ so you get a ScrumDashboard folder (this will be the web root)
Create a new application pool ScrumDashboard with default settings in IIS Manager (it does not require a domain account because the currently logged in user will be impersonated)
Create a new virtual directory ScrumDashboard in the Team System Web Access site in IIS and select the scrum dashboard folder (the reason to create the virtual directory in the same web site as the web access is to be able to open dialogs using javascript events without cross domain problems)
Right-click on the created virtual directory and select Properties, then change the application pool to the previously created application pool ScrumDashboard
Create a temporary directory C:\ScrumDashboardTemp and make sure IIS_WPG have write access on this folder (this folder is used by Microsoft Team Explorer caching, you may put it anywhere but you must change the path in web.config if you do so)
Run the DB.sql script found in the installation package on the TFS back-end database to create a new database ScrumDashboard (this database is currently only used for the RSS feed and team members, all other Scrum data is stored in TFS)
Create a database user and assign full access(dbo) rights to the ScrumDashboard database
Edit c:\inetpub\ScrumDashboard\web.config and set correct URL's for Team Foundation Server resources under the appSettings-section.
Edit c:\inetpub\ScrumDashboard\web.config and set the connection string to the newly created database ScrumDashboard
Register a new event in TFS using bissubscribe.exe (found in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server\TF Setup). This step is required both for the RSS feed and for expiring cached data. bissubscribe /eventType WorkItemChangedEvent /address http://localhost :8090/scrumdashboard/notification/WorkItemChanged.asmx /server http://localhost:8080
Go to http://localhost:8090/scrumdashboard, your site should be up and running by now. Try clicking on the RSS feed link in your browser to make the sure the database has been configured correctly.

Description of settings in web.config

tfsServer
This is the URL used to connect to the TFS web services
tfsWebAccess
This is the URL used to link to the TFS web access (absolute path)
tfsWebAccessRelative
This is the URL used to link to the TFS web access (relative path from Scrum Dashboard)
tfsReportServer
This is the URL used to render and link the Sprint Burndown report
WorkItemTrackingCacheRoot
A setting of Microsoft Team Explorer to make sure we don't get per user caching on the server

I followed the posted installation instructions, and also set the path to the scrumdashboard files, and when I tried to access the site I got an error 403.

One thing I read in the instructions that was impossible to do:

Create a new virtual directory ScrumDashboard in the Team System Web Access site in IIS and select the previously created application pool ScrumDashboard (the reason to create the virtual directory in the same web site as the web access is to be able to open dialogs using javascript events without cross domain problems)

If you create a virtual directory under a web site, you're forced to use the application pool setting for the web site. Did you mean to select the path to the scrumdashboard folder? That's all you get to set when creating the virtual directory.

Created Issue: Display Ordered PBIs

PBIs on the left hand side don't seem to be displayed in any particular order, ideally they should be displayed by Business Priority and then Delivery Order with the option to change ascending or descending order.
