Well, you'd think that 4+ years of working with SharePoint would make me some kind of expert on the stuff. I think I know just enough to realize how much I still don't know. There sure are a ton of possibilities to consider in any MOSS architecture-deployment-customization. Hopefully I can consider some best practices here.
