Personal Statement

I’m a C/C++/C# programmer who likes to dabble. I enjoy learning new things and hearing what other people think about code. My goal is to become a software architect or software engineer someday and contribute to the community.

I am currently looking for a job where I can explore new and old technologies. I love working in small groups and designing and implementing alongside capable programmers. I am hoping that the projects I post on this site can act as proof of my love for programming. I am also hoping that shops looking for a good programmer will see where I'm at and what I can bring to their company. In the same way, I'm hoping other professionals can help me find where I can still use some improvement.

I am completely entrenched in software development. I own an enormous library of computer science books; I am always reading something. I love to participate on forums. I spend a lot of my free time developing small software projects, including Windows/Linux applications and libraries. There is hardly an aspect of computers that doesn't interest me. I am just glad I get paid to do it. :-)

I 'm a recent college graduate, hoping to return to school someday. I am living in Montana with my wife and two cats. I work for a small government shop, writing billing software for hydroelectrical generation and transmission. I would like to move either back home to Pennsylvania or to a new location where I can work in a more interesting environment.

I have always been really interested in code quality. I have been that way since I started programming in college. I enjoy books on good software practices. I have gone through a lot of personal coding styles over the years. It was a natural step for me to become obsessed with design patterns. Now I am really getting into architectural patterns and anaylsis patterns. Furthermore, I like to help others find styles that work for them, as well as show them better ways of writing their software using patterns. At the same time, I love utilizing software management practices such as the Unified Process, so that when a project is done I have a warm, fuzzy feeling about having a working system and great documentation. That's why someday I would like to be a software engineer and/or a software architect.

So, I hope that my involvement with CodePlex can be used as a way for employers to find me. I also want to use it as a place where I can get a lot of feedback. Finally, I want to share with other developers some of the work I have done to hopefully make their lives easier.
