If you're installing SLK on Windows Server 2008,
1. Ensure you install ALL service packs to date on Windows
2. Also remember to install SQL Express SP2, if you are using SQL Express
3. If you are having trouble using STSO admin in unbundling the SLK package, or if you get an access denied message - try disabling Windows User Account Control
4. While configuring SLK for a site collection, remember to setup the database engine to accept remote connections
To do this with SQL Express - Launch SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration console -> Choose Remote Connections on the Database Engine -> Select Local and remote connections / Using both TCP/IP and named pipes option
If you do not setup your database engine to accept remote connections, you might see an error while trying to create a database
Good luck!
