I tried to understand how to store videos not on SilverLight server, but on mine. Is it possible? All info about video is recorded in the database of SilverLight server, I guess. Maybe it's possible to create my own database on my server. But I didn't exactly understand the structure of it. And why the possibility of "local" videos storing is not supporting by default?
Thanks to any help and sorry for my bad english :)
anyone have any insights into what is going on. i just started debugging and thought i would try and save some time if there is a known issue and workaround.

I now have a VPS running server 2003 with all the nessecary .net framework components installed and all updates applied, but for some god aweful reason I am unable to install either version 1 or 2 of microsoft expression encoder on the server.

Would anyone be able to help? The Expression forums had this question posed, but it seems have worked to solutions through personal emails.

I have made a log of the install, but I cant tell what goes wrong.

With version 1, it gets to the end... licensing and starts to roll back the install. Version 2 doesnt even start, something about a mucked up icon resource... who knows. I dont want the new version anyway, I already purchased the first version for using with video.show!

Has anyone else been able to install expression in a virtualized environment? I have 1 gig of ram available and all the needed components.

thanks, im frustrated!

John
Hi,

Great software. I can get it to compile and run when I run it on localhost with a locally hosted database As soon as I deploy it to a domain on the internet, I get timeout errors:

I get these error when I try and register as a new user. The popup opens up, I put a username, password and email address then on clicking submit, nothing happens for about 30 seconds - then the first message box appears (I'm running from a machine with VS2008 installed so I get debuggin errors

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException: the server request timed out - line 604

Then the second error happens.

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 12031

I'm running this on a WS 2008 machine with IIS7. I have installed Expression Encoder.

What could be the problem?

Please check out http://www.spacelinx.com to see the error live.

thanks
Hi there

I want to use Video.Show in a personal web page, I want to be able to upload my already encoded videos to my own web server and don't want to use Silverlight Streaming because of the restrictions on time (also I will not be uploading more than 10 videos anyway).

So is possible to change the code to allow the upload of videos already encoded and store them in the same web server without Silverlight Streaming?
Ok, figured it out. I'll explain an example of how I change the colors of the video title, tags:

1. go to "ZipResources" folder and edit the "GridItem.xaml" file. Change the "Foreground" color in the last "TextBlock" tag.
2. Save it and zip it into a new "VideoGrip.zip" to replace the existing one.

That should do it!
I'm trying to change the color of the video titles from "white" to "black" in the video grid, anyone know where I can change this?
When the number of tags exceeds 20, any page that includes a video with tag 21+ will not display. Internet Explorer reports the following error on the page:

Line: 5
Error: Expected hexadecimal digit

Can anyone verify?
That is correct, gorbett. The following was taken from .../Video.Show/Developer Overview.docx included with the latest release:

2. Constructs the “Job File.”
a. The Encoder.exe takes a job file defining what actions should be taken on what content. Video.Show includes a JobFile.xml that acts as a template for each video encoded for display on the site.
i. A job file template is created by using Expression Encoder to configure a job and then using File, Save As to create an Xml version of the job setting.

I concur this is the simplest method to create a custom JobFile.xml. Copy the custom job file into .../Web/tempupload/ and overwrite the release job file.
