Error in Quickstart

I am unable to get even the simple quickstart working to display the default.aspx page. Factory built new HelloWorld site, I did nothing else but a successful build. I run vs2005 and vs2008 side by side. Testing this using vs2008. Uninstalled all old gax/gat/guidances before installing new feb 2008 versions. A number of posts seem to indicate a possible problem with the framework version identification (I have the 3.5 updates installed). Seems like it should be a simple error, but I am unable to figure out how to configure properly. Any assistance is appreciated ! Error detail for default.aspx follows...

I also see an error in the event log each time I try to start app, which seems to point to a problem with security polices for the machine debug manager {0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064}. However, when I use the Component Services admin tool (which was not on even on admin menus by default in Vista), it says that all members of Debuggers local group have full access for local activation. I am a member of that group. So I am not sure how to interpret this. Event text follows...

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064} to the user JC-PC\JC SID (...) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Do you mean that you are having challenges getting a brand new Web Client Web Site Solution working in VS2008 on Vista?
If so, it is a known issue, which is listed...... somewhere......

... oooops....

Well, it looks like we have been a bit slow in getting the Known Issues page updated. I need to go talk to Blaine about that (since I think he volunteered to do it)..
In the meantime:

The OpenWebConfiguration method exhibits problems in VS2008 that were not seen in VS2005 in most scenarios.
Basically, in a Web Site project (Web Application projects are fine), this method does not work well (or at all, really) in the development web server.
However, there are two workarounds:
  1. Run VS2008 as an Administrator.
  2. Use Web Application Projects.

I hope this helps,

Thanks ! Both solutions worked fine.

I have my desktop shortcut for vs2008 set to run as admin, but neglected to change the start menu shortcut too.

Thanks again for the quick response. Been looking forward to working with this, after having good results with the old SCSF packages, which I eagerly await in their new incarnation.

It works, thanks a lot. I was trying to figure it out since couple of days.

Hi, help for me

I try qwickStart for at Windows Vista Home Premium + VS 2008+SP1 + Smart Client Software Factory and etc.

following your recomenations

  1. Run VS2008 as an Administrator.
  2. Use Web Application Projects.

but not works.

Then I add easy page Default3.aspx with MasterPage

<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Shared/DefaultMaster.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default3.aspx.cs" Inherits="Default3" %>
< asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="DefaultContent" Runat="Server"> Привет
</ asp:Content>

and Set As Start page -> F5 and same error

Hi Valeri,

I tried running the Modulariy Quickstart of the WCSF with the environment configuration you described, but I had no problems (I just opened the ModularityQuickstart.sln as Administrator and run the solution).
Below you can find some questions that might help us reproduce and solve the problem:

  1. Are you using the Feb2008 version of the WCSF?
  2. What error are you receiving?
  3. Which of the Quickstarts are you trying with?
  4. Any other consideration you believe relevant.

 Thanks!

Thanks you, Matias.
It works perfectly.
But why it is not started WebClient easy project which I create by means of Create Smart Web Client Solution template?
I wish to create the own project.

1. I have

 Thanks!
