Installing the Web Client Software Factory - February 2008

If you want to use all the assets in the Web Client Software Factory, you need to install the prerequisites, which include Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (C# and Web Developer), .NET Framework 3.5 and Guidance Automation Extensions February 2008. You may also decide to install the optional components, which include Guidance Automation Toolkit for Visual Studio 2008 and Enterprise Library.

Note: Go here for directions on how to upgrade from previous releases of the Factory. For instructions on how to enable existing Web client solutions created with the previous releases see Upgrading from Previous Releases in the documentation. You will find the topic under the Inspecting the Software Factory Assets\Application Blocks\Composite Web Application Block.

Summary of Installation Steps

Download and install the Web Client Software Factory

Download the Web Client Software Factory February 2008 Installer here.
Run the installer.

Install the Web Client Software Factory dependencies (optional)

Click the Check dependencies button from the splash screen.

This list contains the required and optional components for using the Web Client Software Factory. Items in red are not installed in the computer, and contain a link to their download sites.

Download the required components that are not on your computer.
Download the optional components that are not on your computer.

Note: If you are in the evaluation stage and you only want to review the documentation and the source code, you do not need to install the dependencies.

Select the components to install

Once you finish installing the prerequisites, click Exit to return to the Web Client Software Factory installer and Next to see the Custom Setup screen.

Select which features to install/uninstall by clicking on the icon next to the feature and selecting the desired installation option from the drop-down.

Click Next and then Install to confirm and install the software factory.

Note: You should download the Guidance Automation Toolkit if you want to modify the guidance package included in the factory.

Install the Web Client Software Factory Source Code

Select All Programs -> Microsoft patterns & practices -> Web Client Software Factory — February 2008 from the Start menu.
Select Web Client Software Factory Source Code Install.
In the installer, select the destination folder for the source code and the items you want to install.

Note: Library Binaries for Source Code installs the necessary assemblies needed to build the solutions.

Install the Composite Web Client Library Source Code

Once you have installed the Web Client Software Factory, you can install the Composite Web Client Library Source Code.

Select All Programs -> Microsoft patterns & practices -> Web Client Software Factory — February 2008 from the Start menu.
Select Composite Web Client Library Source Code Install.
In the installer, select the destination folder for the source code and the items you want to install.

Note: Library Binaries for Source Code installs the necessary assemblies needed to build the solutions.

I have installed
- Web Client Software Factory - Jun 2007 (with PageFlow block but no StateDependency attribute)
- Web Client Software Factory - Oct 2007 (It adds StateDependency but now no PageFlow block)
- Guidance Automation Toolkit for VS 2005
- Guidance Automation Toolkit for Vs 2008
- GuidanceExtension-Feb 2008

1) I am trying to install WCSF Feb 2008 and it doesn't allow me to do that. Any reason? How can I install it?

2) How can I create PageFlow application now?

The issue is that you cannot install the October 2007 release side by side with the February 2008 release. We are evaluating if we can remove this restriction so stay tuned to my blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/blaine.

Hi,

I'm currently using the latest version of the WCSF, and i'm going through the exercises. I'm already doing Lab 8 - Using Page Flow, I'm having problems, I can't seem to find the add page flow in the web client factory menu.

I've installed the latest WCSF version for VS2008, the Guidance Extensions and Guidance Automation Toolkit for VS 2008 too and
I've also installed the Enterprise Library 3.1

Hello,

it seems that the link for downloading the factory isn't correctly formed (When I follow the link I get the message "The system cannot find the file specified."). I think it should point to this address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb264518.aspx or directly to the download page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=47755838-049B-4291-AFEA-A379AE28D7B3&displaylang=en.

Hi boogster,

The WCSF – February 2008 release doesn’t include the PageFlow Application Block. We published in WCSFContrib a separated guidance package for this app block that supports Visual Studio 2008 and GAX 1.4.

I have followed these installation instructions exactly.
When opening up VS 2008 to beging with teh basics, i.e. hello world application, the Guidance Packages option is not present in my new project dialog.
What gives?

I installed web client software factory and all the dependencies. But when i tried to create a new solution, an error message pop up as:
Class not registered.
Looking for object with CLSID: {70BAB4E1-E21D-44D0-95D0-5B6312E494D1}.

Anyone knows what it is? Thanks!

Microsoft patterns & practices License for Web Client Software Factory

This license governs use of the accompanying software. If you use the software, you accept this license. If you do not accept the license, do not use the software.

1. Definitions
